Re: Yoga 2 13 Internals

2014-08-30, 17:04 PM

Hello Berserkir,

I am 90% sure there is no SSD inside - hence the M.2 slot is empty and you can put a M.2 SSD in - make sure is not a PCIE type, will not work (Crucial M550 is a good candidate, I've installed one M500 with no issues). My Yoga 2 13 is now running in following configuration: I5 / 4Gb RAM, 120Gb Crucial M500 as system disk (OS migrated from the original drive - do this in order to preserve genuine Windows) and the original WD hybrid drive (500Gb + 16Gb) as data storage. The only issue is that the One Key Recovery is not working anymore, so I used Windows backup to save an image on the secondary drive.

Cheers,

JoeMGP

@Dom: So I tried searching for the cable that lets you run a 2.5" ssd and it's $35.00, not worth it for the price.

I'm going to drop a 256gb M.2 sad in it just waiting for some prices to drop. Will trash/sell the hdd, I came from an ssd system so the performance is pretty bad for me.

@Joe: I know about the M.2 slot, but ssd for it are more expensive and only select companies make drives for them.

Please help us out in finding which 7260 AC does work in the Y2Pro and/or Yoga 2 13:

Owners of more recent Yoga 2 versions equipped with the working Intel 7260AC,

please  post your   Windows Hardware ID   from Device Manager ...

e.g.    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_08b1&SUBSYS_40708086

Hey,

I own Yoga 2 13, i would like to add to the M.2 some SSD. But I'm not sure which one of these will work:

Samsung XP941 512GB M.2 NGFF PCIe x4 SSD (2280)
or
Transcend 512GB SATA3 M.2 MTS800 SSD
or
Crucial M2 512GB M550 SSD, SATA

The Samsung XP941 have a great performance, but I'm wondering will it even work on my Yoga?

I'm open for more suggestions people..

You'll need a SATA M.2 drive. Crucial M2 M500 and M550 have been reported to work fine. Myself i am using a M500.

Thanks for that.

I'm wondering if the "Samsung XP941 512GB M.2 NGFF PCIe x4" will work on my Yoga? what do u think?

The Samsung should be faster than the Crucial M2 M500 and the M550, but does the mainboard will support the PCIe x4?

Hello,

From what I know, that drive from Samsung might not be supported. You'd better stick to the well-known compatible M.2 SSDs. I know for sure Crucial NGFF M500 is working (I currently run my Yoga 2 13 OS from one of those). Also, a lot of people around tested successfully the M550 as well. Although synthetic benchmarks do state that M550 is faster than M500, and Samsung XP941 even faster, I think for normal users the difference might be very less noticeable. My computer boots up in less than 10 seconds and runs blizzard fast (a regular MS Office documents opens "ready to edit" in less than half a second).

If you have a solid return policy from the shop you want to buy the Samsung XP941, please do so and let us know if it's working in Yoga 2 13.

Regards,

JoeMGP

Hey,

I have tried to find the Samsung XP941 in my country but it's only available in UK so i will not take any risk. And probably i will just take the Crucial NGFF M500 M.2 480GB like you took and most of the people took as well.

Thanks a lot "JoeMGP"!!

Hello All,

I want to know if the if the Transcent MTS800 or Adata Premier pro M.2 both 256 gb, SSDs work? I dont want the Crucial M500 due to its lower speeds...my OLD 2012  Zenbook had a 550 mb read and 450 mb write speeds so I want similar speeds.

You have one less than mine...go figure. Mine has a small and empty one in
addition to the ones you listed.

What happened after you used TodoBackup? I saw many in the forum having
success using Macrium Reflect - you can download and use for 30 days the
Pro version. Normal version if free and works pretty well. I would give it
a try.
I'm curious to know if your M550 will work fine since I want to buy a 512Gb
to use as boot and work driver. Pls let me know the outcome.
Cheers
