Remove the HDD connector and reboot.

Then reconnect the HDD and restart Windows.

I took me 3 reboots before Windows noticed the new drive ...

I bought the same disk "Crucial M500 CT240M500SSD4 (M.2, 240GB)". Just put it in, and BIOS sees it, as disk 2, but under windows 8.1 dont! It should be visible under "disks management" at least to format it. What to do next? Any ideas?

Try disabling Secure Boot in the BIOS and see if that helps.

It worked after installing every update from windows update and some 5-6 reboots. I used EaseUS Todo Backup Free. Now my machine with i3 and only 4Gb of RAM works great. It sfould be banned to sell computers with HDD, even hybrid that just dont work :(

There are so many good reasons to install an SSD instead of the WD 500 HDD :

  • improved speed in data access and transfer
    boot time and starting programms
  • increased battery time
by using less energy (about 3x) operational time will increase by max 1 hour
  • reliabilty
dropping the laptop will not result in bad sectors or others problems
  • less heat
reduction in energy usage reduces also the heat generated by storage
  • total silence
with the noise and rumble of the HDD all rotating components could be eliminated
as with my Samsung 535 in silent/meeting mode (cpu throttling to disable the blower)

There remains only one reason to keep instaling HDD's in laptops: capacity.

As costs for a budget 128GB SSD are now very close to the cost of the 5400rpm 5mm WD500 ...

Re: Yoga 2 13 Internals

Hello all

I've just received this laptop and I'm trying to add a Crucial M.2 256gb SSD using Macrium Reflect. I've gone through most of this thread. Just to clarify a few things before i take the plunge (i have never opened a laptop before!) because a couple of things are confusing:

(1) open up laptop and fit the SSD. Restart laptop.

(2) At this point do I need to initialise the drive via Disk Management?

(3) Use Macrium Reflect to clone the drive

(4) Reboot and enter BIOS. Change Boot order

(5) Now do I initialise the drive, if not done earlier? What happens to the old drive and will I have incorrect letters assigned to the partitions? Have I now got two C drives?

(6) What can I do to the HDD in order to use it for storage only. Reformat? What about all the partitions?

Now that you can see all the drives you can probably re-enable Secure Boot. Worked for me, anyway.
