Re: Yoga 2 13 Internals

Thanks for the photo.  I've spent a lot of time considering the following:

Thinkpad Yoga

Thinkpad Helix

Yoga 2 Pro

and today...Yoga 2 13

There always seems to be an compromise but the Yoga 2 13 does check off all of the boxes (lightness, performance, storage, battery life, legible display, good keyboard / trackpad, price, etc.)

Those were my thoughts as well. The option to add an M.2 SSD was what tipped the scales for me. So far, I'm quite happy with it. Just got it this week. Still playing around with the scaling settings, as some programs (Chrome, iTunes, etc...) look fuzzy on the default settings. Things look very crisp with the scaling for everything set at 100%, but menu bars and icons are tiny. Crisp and tiny. I can't imagine how small they must be on the Yoga 2 Pro at native resolution.

Anyway, enjoy whichever Lenovo you choose!

Re: Yoga 2 13 Internals

I've been a ThinkPad / Lenovo user for nearly 15 years.  As a consultant, I'm doing a lot more travelling these days and lugging around my W520 with the high-capacity batteries to get me through the day (feels like about 10lbs) is wearing on me.

I've been demoing the first gen Surface Pro for the last week, and I'm going to return it.  It's a crisp FHD display, but at only 10.6" it gets tiresome after a few hours of use, and the battery life isn't great.  The Surface keyboard is also too much of a toy, and the thing isn't easy to use on your lap.  The Yoga's 13.3" 1080P display is the sweet spot for me, so is a good keyboard.

Hi Gunter,

Thanks for the response.

I'm also wondering if your Yoga 2 has a backlit keyboard? There seems to be some discrepancy in the communty whether or not specific models of the yoga 2 have a backlit keyboard or not. Did you purchase your Yoga 2 through the lenovo website or from a store?

Yes, my Yoga 2 has a backlit keyboard. My guess is that all models have one. The hardware maintenance manual only mentions backlit keyboards in the parts list.

Hi there. I'll jump in. Just got a Yoga 2 13 a few days ago. Ordered from Lenovo in the US. Core i7 4500u, 8 GB RAM, and the hard drive is listed as WDC WD5000M22K-24Z1LT0-SSHD-16GB.

Thanks Travissimo,

So that answers my question. The last HDD option in the hardware maintenance manual is a 5mm HDD with integrated 16GB SSD cache, keeping the M.2 slot free. Quite an interesting drive. There is no information at all on the internet about it.

So is the keyboard / palmrest on the Yoga 2 13 identical to the Y2P's?  I set up a client with the Y2P, and thought the keyboard was good - but also loved the soft rubbery surface of the palmrest.  I'm assuming they carried this over to the Yoga 2 13, but hoping someone here can confirm this.  Thanks!

Pulled the trigger.  I found a month-old Yoga 2 13 i5/4GB/500GB at a price I couldn't resist.  Also ordered the Crucial 480GB M.2 drive.  No laptop is perfect, but this looks like a decent solution.  Had eyes on the Y2PRO but fiddling with scaling microscopic fonts and non-scaling applications looked like more trouble than it was worth.

.... or you could have set your display to 1080p.... That way, it be the same as a non pro.

I don't think that's quite correct.  The math is more like 1600x900 to scale directly with 3200x1800.  1080P should still be sharper on a the Yoga 2 13's native 1080P display.
