Yoga 2 13 micro HDMI not working

Hello, I have a Yoga 2 13 laptop with Win 10 and wanted to use an external monitor.

So I got a micro HDMI to HDMI cable and hooked it up to my monitor, but surprise, it does not work.

I already tested the micro HDMI to HDMI cable and the monitor with my Sony A6000 camera,

it worked fine, first time and every time.

Already read the Yoga 2 Pro thread about cutting a bit of plastic off the micro HDMI cable,

not neccessary, measuread the depth of the micro HDMI port on the laptop, 5.2 mm,

and the length of the metal part of the micro HDMi cable, 5.5 mm. When I plug in,

I can hear and feel the click-in-place of the cable in the port, it goes all the way, and there

is still a bit of room, 0.3mm, left on the outside, so definitely not a metal part length problem.

Already tried un- and re-installing both the Lenovo and the Intel driver for the Intel VGA

display card, no fix.

Basically it behaves like this, when I plug the cable, the monitor wakes up, but immediately

says "Entering Power Save Mode" and goes back to sleep, like it recognizes a connection

but there is no video signal coming. On the laptop there is no sign of a connection,

in the Display settings, when I press Detect, I get "Didn't detect another display."

Also tried changing the order of plugging the cable and powering up the monitor,

no solution.

Tried giggling a little bit the cable inside the port, nothing.

What else can I try? What can I debug ?

Anyone else is using this setup?, does ot have similar problems ?

Thank you so much.

Re: Yoga 2 13 micro HDMI not working

Hello anpa24

Thank you for using the Lenovo forum,

First thing is suggest i make sure you have all the windows updates done, next try downloading the chipset driver from the lenovo support page as this normaly solves alot of issues.

If these steps do not work or you would like more info on this issue you can call your local Lenovo support line. Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers:- https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/supportphonelist_full

Hope this help you and let us know how you get on

Re: Yoga 2 13 micro HDMI not working

So, I re-installed the Intel Chipset driver for my laptop model, updated Windows 10,

but no success, when I connect the micro HDMI cable to the monitor, the monitor

enters the Sleep State.

Don;t know what else to try.

Thank you.

Re: Yoga 2 13 micro HDMI not working

Hi, I have exactly the same issue!

This first happened to me when I was running Windows 8.1 and stayed with the computer after upgrading to Windows 10.

I have tried absolutely everything the same you have with the same results.

Really frustrated with this now and likewise, I have run out of ideas!

Re: Yoga 2 13 micro HDMI not working

Hi, It sort of fixed by itself. So the Yoga 2 13 would not output video to the HDMI monitor.
I just took the laptop and tried with a Samsung smart TV, it also did not work at first.
I was just about to give up, and when I moved the laptop it begat putting video on the TV.
So that meant that the Yoga and the micro HDMI to HDMI cable were good.
Then I switched back to the monitor, pulled on the cable a little bit and it also started working.
So I really don't know what fixed it, maybe it was some drivers, the days before I tried to update
all the drivers from the LEnovo support site, and the Intel ones, including the chipset.
Immediately after this it did not work, but maybe after a restart, who knows.
One strange thing that I noticed is, that whn the HDMI cable is plugged in both the Yoga and the monitor,
if I power on the Yoga before the monitor it won't work.
With both powered off, you have to power on the monitor first and then the Yoga.
All the best!
