Yoga 2 Pro Computer Temperature

2014-03-28, 8:35 AM

So recently, I've been noticing that my yoga 2 pro was heating up very quickly (mainly the top center of keyboard) and I was just wondering how my computer temperatures compare with other owners. I average usually 47 C on an idle computer and if I try playing a game or something, it becomes burning hot. I've noticed that this is killing my battery. If anyone can post their computer temperatures (maybe even usuing CPUID HWMonitor), that would be great. Here are my results:

Thanks!

Edit: Another thing, I always here my fan on. Why doesn't it stay off as much as it used to? Do I have some sort of a problem? Are the temperatures too high?

I'd say all Yoga 2 Pros are lemons. I've had problems with every single one I've had, I tried sending it in to have it fixed (which was the biggest waste of time) and now I just gave up. Oh well, 47 celcius is not too bad I guess. The only thing I recomend is closing all your background process or return it if you still have the chance. I heard a Yoga 3 Pro might be coming out soon. Also, a Surface Pro 3 might be the better choice right now.

Here is a guess.... Chrome is taking 15% or more of your CPU. You probably have flash playing or had a flash enable tab + have not restarted your browser since opening that tab.

Chrome would be awesome if it did not cause my laptop to heat. Then again, Firefox touch interface sucks on desktop and ie is not an option.

Nope, that's not it. When I first got my Yoga, I was at 40C using Chrome, now I'm at 47-48C using IE.

How do you know that isn't it? What percentage of the processor are you using according to task manager?

What energy mode are you running?

With a few Firefox tabs open and running balanced mode I am showing 48C on the CPU, 52C on the motherboard, and 35C on the SSD

Task manager is showing 1 - 7% usage and the processor is floating around between 800hz to 1.42ghz. Memory usage is 41%

The laptop is sitting on my lap and I don't notice the heat.

I'm at exactly the same numbers (see my first post), but I feel the heat (especially when it's on my lap) and it wasn't there before. I'm not complaining as much because I just got used to it, but the problem still does exist. This thread is a bit old, but someone asked and I had to give my honest opinion about it and that's it.

From my research, this is a flash problem. It probably affect ie and ff too.

I was thinking that too. It's relatively normal unless you start watching YouTube videos (which actually sometimes uses HTML). I was thinking maybe there's a fault with the graphics card. Maybe it can't handle a 3200x1800 screen that well. But who knows....

Re: Yoga 2 Pro Computer Temperature

mine is running at 50-51degrees right now with 3% cpu usage. and i think i only got about 3 hours of use with an 80% battery charge. i did update flash the same night i got it, and may  have watched a couple videos on the infamous yoga yellow problem when i felt it going hot, but this seems to be outside the boundaries of okay -

do you guys  think i should exchange the unit at best buy or it's just going to be the exact same deal? i'm only in the country two more weeks so all customer service issues have to be resolved before then and now i'm nervous.
