Re: Yoga 2 Pro New Bios

2014-07-20, 0:46 AM

I found directions for saving the BIOS in this thread:

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Windows-based-Tablets-and/Need-77CN16WW-BIOS-backup-file-for-Yoga-11S/m-p/1217138/highlight/true#M7319

However, the directions did not work and the program updated my Y2P to the 38 BIOS without saving the 35 BIOS.

It's probably not a big deal.  Everything seems fine with the 38 BIOS so I doubt that I will need to revert.

However, reflashing will be an issue. I made the BIOS backup without an issue. However, reflashing the backup gives error 280, "Failed to disable write protection for the BIOS space."

So even if you make a backup, it does not mean you will be able to downgrade.

Could someone indicate how much time is needed for this update?

I had the same problem but don't worry, just press and hold the on/off switch for a few seconds for a hard reset.  It will boot fine after that.

To all, these BIOS cannot be whitelisted or modded.... Upon deep-level flashing, you will still get: Error 280, "Failed to disable write protection for the BIOS space."

Only way around it is to use a BIOS programmer and connect the device directly onto the BIOS's chip.

@Lenovo Admins: Since you guys don't make the OKR 8.0 software, I understand that it might not be possible to re-enable the password feature that the OKR 7.0 software had. However, please allow us to password protect the Boot Options in the BIOS. Currently you can only password protect the BIOS and the HDD on Boot. I only want the password on the Boot Menu displayed when someone hits the OKR button. Please consider this!

Indest,

Some really good discussion in this thread and I've passed it on to our Idea team for review.

All,

I don't believe the version 38 is to address the flicker fix, based on case notes from last week, it looks like there are still some delays in the version that will address this.    Will update once we have a better defined date or release version.

EDIT - oops, I was wrong.  38 should be the BIOS that will address the flicker at lower brightness levels.

The delay update I saw showed a 7/14 date, but apparantly this had already posted and last night we fixed the dates on the support site.

Thanks

Thank you Mark, I appreciate your assistance. As long as I can password protect the OKR system, I will be happy (and I am sure many will too).
