Yoga 2 Pro - Running out of space in Drive C:

2016-03-14, 14:13 PM

I bought a Yoga 2 Pro laptop about a year ago.  I keep getting a warning that I am running out of space in Drive C.  I have my pictures stored under This PC > Pictures.  It says I haved used 213 GB out of 213 GB.  I thought when I bought this it had a tremendous amount of storage for photos and videos.  Is there storage somewhere I am missing?  Thanks for any help!

Hi b8caster ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you have the Machine Number from the label sticker or check it from here.

We would be able to check for the storage capacity as it was purchased with otherwise to check it directly from the pc.

Try to open disc management tool to check on how the storage is partitioned to compare it to the actual harddrive capacity.

Update us how it is on your pc.

Regards

 Hi b8caster ,

Using the Machine number 59418309 for a IDEAPADYOGA2PRO-13

Verified  SAMSUNG MZMTE256HMHP 256GB MSATA SSD ,

How big are those pictures (right click on folder to check on properties size) ?

Do you think you have the accurate file size for the pictures,

Most solid state drives are limited to capacity unlike traditional mechanical harddrive that can over up to 2-3TB space.

It's advantage over hdd is the transmission speed  , and same reason why separate external data storage would be ideal.

Update us .

No, 256GB is not a tremendous amount of memory. Not if you are storing pictures etc on it. What I did with one of the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro's that I had is increase the storate to 512GB. It's cheap and a very easy process on the Yoga 2 Pro to change the SSD in it. You could go even larger if you choose. But you should also consider external and or Cloud Storage.

Hi All,

Greetings.

I would agree with performing backup first so that you can safely proceed with whatever attempt.

Repartitioning would just offer the same issue and likely would endanger the hidden factory reset partition.

A repartion does not fee up any disk space. This problem will still persist. One COULD also use Disk Cleanup and remove files. Also, remove previous version of Windows from upgrades etc if you have no plan to back.. If these are things to consider come ask here for assistance before doing so if you have any question about what you are doing.

First thing I'd do is offload all of your pictures onto a thumb drive. I hightly doubt that's your issue. Every picture I've taken over the last ten years is backed up to a cloud drive and it still hasn't hit 25GB. Something else is eating up your hard drive space.

For what ti's worth, I never use the C: drive on any computer to store data. That all goes elsewhere. The C: drive is best left to just the operating system and programs that aren't happy running anywhere else. If you have a truckload of programs, it might be time to either consider upgrading to a larger C: drive oor just removing the ones you don't use that often.

If you still find the C: drive full after you move your photos and videos to external storage, then it's time to look for other reasons your drive shows full
