Re: Yoga 2 Pro SD slot

I've recently discovered these as well. From what I can tell it seems as if these will be even more suitable than the NiftyDrive or Storedge SD cards. It would probably be just a matter of finding the depth of the port on the Pro and then matching that up with the respective JetDrive. Of course, it would be easier if someone had a MacBook lying around.

I think this one will be the one for the yoga 2 pro:

That one is 0.7" "deep", according to its specifications. But it goes only up to 64 GB, whereas other ones go up to 128 GB.

Does anyone have Nifty or any other adapter? What are the measurement specs for it, and how much does it stick out of Yoga's slot?

Just so we know how deep Yoga's SD slot is, and to know which one to go for...

I measured the port with a normal SD card and it looks like it is about~.63 inches deep. So it seems as if even the shallowest one would still stick out a very small amount. But less so than the alternatives.

I have the Nifty drive with a 64GB Sandisk in it.  Works great!  When you purchase the Nifty (MacBook Pro Retina model), you have to do a minor modification.

The Nifty will not insert flush.  However, by filing on each side on the cover of the Nifty, it now fits flush in my Y2P.

Whoa. Way overpriced. You can get a nifty drive which also fits flush with an elementary modification plus a 64GB card and still have at least $20 to spare, slightly faster write speeds and the ability to expand/swap cards if you have any other micros laying around the house.

Also the JetDrive 330 that was just mentioned is 64GB and 6x the write speed for $42. $99 is in the range of sandisks storEDGE 128GB model so that is rather insulting tbh. Sure it's a niche thing, but I'd at least expect the read/write speeds to be better than the cheapest class 10 SD in the world. Even if money wasn't an issue, most of the alternatives are just plain better.

The end of my PNY storedge 64 gb drive was starting to split from leaving it in my yoga...   When I looked in, I noticed that the end of the drive was empty - so I put the card into the yoga, drew a line down where it was flush, took it out and cut the end off the storedge drive with a pair of scissors.

I then used electrical tape to cover the end of the drive and to add a flexible pull tab....  So now I have a card that fits flush into the yoga that I can pull out using the tab I put on.

Here you go:

Inside the yoga 2 - I could have trimmed more so that it sits more flush, I may still do that.   I am thinking of upgrading to the 128 gb though.  The transcend jet is on sale on amazon today - anyone have one of those to take apart to see if it can be cut down?

And proof that it still works (that almost full SDXC is the storedge):
