No need to uninstall. Intel updater doesn't work. Go https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25274/Intel-Iris-Iris-Pro-and-HD-Graphics-Production-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10

scroll down, download the .exe. Works like a charm to update. It's not on lenovo support at this time. Driver 9/1/15 4279

Re: Yoga 2 Pro - Screen Flickering and Screen Blanking

Screen flickering and banding is a well known issue with Intel's display drivers for Yoga 2 Pro in both Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. I'm talking about the big flicker, not the small one which appears when display is set to lowest brightness.

This can be easily fixed with disabling PANEL SELF REFRESH option in Intel display driver control panel, in Power options. That's all.

Lenovo's customized Intel's display drivers don't even have this option, so the flickering doesn't happen with Lenovo's drivers. But Lenovo never updates its drivers, so it's better to download latest Intel's drivers and turn off the Panel self refresh option.

But since Panel self refresh option lowers the power consumption on battery for almost entire 1 watt, turning it off is a noticeable tradeoff...

Strangely enough, flickering never happens during video playback. For example, if you would have a chance to start video playback in a middle of the flickering this would stop it instantly, whereas the flickering would instantly resume if you stop or pause the video playback.
This would be a clear sign to both Lenovo and Intel what they need to fix in their drivers, but they never bothered doing it in 2 years...

Add me to the list. I've been having the screen flickering since the beginning also.    I've been holding out thinking that the change from  KitKat to lollipop would have made the difference.

My device is under warranty 'till March 2016.

If you read above, a driver fixes the problem. Mine use to flicker on or off AC several times a day. With the driver update it's been several months since any problem. Again, read above.

I read every single word in every single post before my comment. What I read is that your solution doesn't work. But thanks for trying.

Good day.

To clarify, this thread is regarding the Yoga 2 Pro convertible laptop.

For your device, presumably a Yoga Tablet 2 Pro, my advice would be to visit the Android Yoga Tablet forum:

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Android-Yoga-Series-Tablets/bd-p/lt01_en

and create a new thread describing your issue, or see if there's an existing discussion in progress that you can join.

Regards.

Re: Yoga 2 Pro - Screen Flickering and Screen Blanking

HI,

On Energy Manager I changed it from daily mode to stable mode. It seems better. Not sure how long it will be good.

My Yoga 2 Pro is about 15 months old now so out of warranty :)  From new, I kept it to less than maximum resolution as it would go too small otherwise and thought a little bit of flickering (which was acceptable being occasional) was due to me not choosing the recommended resolution. But today, it was constantly flickering (not acceptable and going too dim). So I made the above change. Please try and see if this helps.

Re: Yoga 2 Pro - Screen Flickering and Screen Blanking

Hi,

I googled this issue, came accross this thread, and wanted to let you guys know that I'm pretty sure I figured out the correct answer to all the problems.

I too had this problem so I did 3 things, updated the intel video driver, updated the BIOS both of which didn't fix it. So then I started tinkering around with the settings...

go to Settings --> System --> Display --> Advanced Display Settings -- Display Adapter Properties -- > Intel HD Graphics Control Panel --> Graphics Properties --> On Battery

Disable the "Display Power Saving Technology" and it should be fixed.

From what I can figure, Intel has this technology in place that when the screen is displaying primarily 'blacks' it power back the backlight, when it's on 'whites' it increases it.

This is the flicker that is pissing me and everyone off, and this is the setting that fixes it.

You're welcome and enjoy :)
