Yoga 2 Pro - Touch screen shows very fast touches and is unusuable ONLY when plugged in

2015-09-02, 6:10 AM

When it is on battery power, everything works wonderfully, no issue whatsoever.

When it is plugged in, if I touch anywhere on any screen (lock screen desktop, any app etc.) I can see the little white "ghost" touch where my finger touches but then it does it like 1000 random times in a straight vertical line from where my finger is. This makes it impossible to log in using the picture lock feature.

The touchpad and keyboard both work when plugged in, just not the touch SCREEN.

I wonder if perhaps you charger is failing? It may be your charging voltage is not properly regulated or there is noise coming through from the wall outlet. I have seen issues like this on phones with the charger plugged in. Have you tried plugging into differnt wall outlets? Do you have access to a different charger?

I think you may be onto something. I bought this used and I'm not entirely sure this is even the right charger for it.

My first clue is that is says "Insignia" on the front.

I can't seem to find the proper specs of the OFFICIAL charger, but this one is as follows:

  • 65W
  • Output: 19v (I think its supposed to be 20V, but I'm not sure)
  • 3.42A

In theory that charger should work but since it is not the OEM charger for the laptop I would try to elimnate it from the equation. The OEM charger is below:

UPDATE: Ordered a new charger, one with the CORRECT voltage (20V) and it solved the problem. Thank you very much.
