Yoga 2 Pro WiFi Replacement Cards????

I know that the Yoga 2 Pro comes with the Intel 7260 n card, but was wondering if it's possible to replace with the Intel 7260 ac card. It seems like an easy swap, but don't know if the exisiting antenna will work with 5 GHz. Thanks!

Re: Yoga 2 Pro WiFi Replacement Cards????

Antennas don't care if it's receiving or trasmitting 5 GHz band. You can upgrade with the 7260 AC without functionality loss at all.

Lenovo Y470: i7-2670QM | 8 GB DDR3 1333 MHz RAM | Nvidia GeForce GT 550M | 500 GB 7200 RPM Seagate HDD | ASUS PCE-AC56 802.11ac Network Adapter | Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

Re: Yoga 2 Pro WiFi Replacement Cards????

People have done this without problems. You need to make sure you're ordering the correct form-factor of the AC card as it's the newer M.2 (NGFF) version. The part number can be found here if you search for it (I don't remember it offhand) and there's a place called mfactors that sells them for $35 or so.

Re: Yoga 2 Pro WiFi Replacement Cards????

What specific card is in the Pro2 now? Lenovo doesn't seem interested in fixing this problem., so I'll try solving it myself with some added expense.

Edit: I guess this is the one... Intel Wireless-N 7260 802.11bgn 2x2 2.4GHz Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 802.11a/b/g/n Adapter

That picture is the wrong form-factor (mini-PCI-E). That's the one you'll see in most other PCs, but the Y2P uses the newer M.2 (Next Generation Form Factor (NGFF)) version.

If you download the Hardware Maintenance Manual from the Support area here, there are actually pretty high-res images of the standard "N" verison of the card (as well as instructions for replacing the card).

You can find the AC verison on line for around $35. I believe it's the 7260NGW that you want.

How do you handle drivers for wifi with an updated card? Does drivers from lenovo work with this new card? Or do you get drivers directly from intel?

I believe people have reported that the existing driver supports the new card as well.

Here's the AC you mentioned on Amazon.  Much more expensive than $35. Ebay is blocked where I am now, and I don't like using anything from them.

I'm  not finding the hardware maintenance manual you mentioned.

Re: Yoga 2 Pro WiFi Replacement Cards????

CeruleanBlue, the wifi component you linked to now has the older form factor. Zoot says that the Yoga 2 Pro wifi has a newer form factor. Search for 7260NGW AC and you will see a difference. 7260NGW AC has two gaps on the connector side. It does not have two holes but instead a halv circle cut out. There are several sellers on Ebay who sell 7260NGW AC for $35. Here is a direct link to the manual download page http://support.lenovo.com/en_SE/detail.page?DocID=UM019262 Zoom in on the image on page 43 and you see that the card in the image does not have any hole but is held in place by a screw pressed into the half circle cut out. You can also see the text 7260NGW BN. When searching I also found a card called 7260NGW AN that is dual band but not AC. On http://www.mfactors.com/7260ngw-intel-dual-band-wireless-ac-7260-802-11ac-dual-band-2x2-wi-fi-blueto... the card in the image has only the name 7260NGW and it says AC in the text next to it.
