Yoga 2 Pro, certain keys work intermittently

My Yoga 2 Pro is closing on 3 years old. A few weeks ago the Backspace, \, and Enter keys began to work when they felt like working. It was fine for a week and now it's happening again. If I use the pop up keyboard, no problems, all keys work.

I've air sprayed the keyboard to clear any foreign bodies.

Any ideas on where the problem originates and possible solutions?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Yoga 2 Pro, certain keys work intermittently

Hi Mikeindfw ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

If the same issue happens on the BIOS and works just fine using a USB external keyboard , does confirm probable hardware issue . How the keys are also located in same spot may suggest the damage on the area maybe due to usual stress placed below the keys as they are the same keys usually used with more force than the others.

If you have tools and skills to physically remove (page 46) and further clean the area may help but otherwise replacement of the entire keyboard are usually done. You may check on the FRU part number particular to your machine here from the parts look up page orderable thru lenovo encompass for availability and costing comparison with other resellers.

Hope this help answer your query.

Update us how it goes best for you.

Regards

Re: Yoga 2 Pro, certain keys work intermittently

Thank you Spidey.

I flashed the bios and the keys are working fine again.

If it re-occurs, I'll follow your cleaning link and see what happens next. In the worst case if I get away with a part replacement, I'd be happy to keep the machine. It's been remarkably stable other than this.
