Yoga 2 Pro wifi drops when Bluetooth is turned on?

2014-05-01, 4:23 AM

I posted this elsewhere but thought it might be somewhat of a more unique problem. It took me a while to get my wifi working, so I am currently using driver 16.5.3.6.

I attempted to pair some bluetooth headphones to the computer tonight (a set of Plantronics headphones I use with my iPhone), but when I turned bluetooth on, the wifi just completely cut out. I attempted to uninstall and update my bluetooth driver but nothing seems to be working. Has anyone had this problem?

WiFi and Bluetooth hardly coexist in the 2.4 GHz band. Swap your WiFi to 7260AC and use 5 GHz band only. That way Bluetooth and WiFi can work without interfering each other. Otherwise, you'll always expect connectivity issues with WiFi whenever Bluetooth is sending and receiving radio.

There's really no driver solution or anything? Why would Lenovo have a Bluetooth feature that doesn't work with wifi? Do other laptops suffer from this problem? Or if that's the case, why wouldn't my iPhone suffer from this problem? My old Macbook Pro never had a problem with it as well.

And if I switch out the wifi card...wouldn't it still be running at 2.4ghz since my router is only an N router? I guess I'll have to just keep BT off for now. I only wanted it for the headphones, but I have others I can use. Just would've been cool to be all wireless with it!

Could I potentially get a BT USB dongle that uses the BT at another frequency? I'd prefer that to opening up the computer.

There would be three things I would do in this situation:

1/ Are you sitting in a noisy environment? Or perhaps sitting at less than 1.5 meters from your router or access point?

2/ Try this, it might help:

Go to 'Device Manager' by right-clicking the start orb in the bottom-left of your screen
And then go to 'Network cards'.
Then for the Intel 7260 Wireless-N and/or Wireless-AC, disable 'Bluetooth AMP' in the 'Advanced' tab.

3/ You can also try the new drivers from Intel here

Kind regards,
