Yoga 2 pro BSOD

2013-12-23, 13:48 PM

Hi everyone

My Y2P is having a lot of BSOD (memory_management, etc...)

It's started a week ago after a week of utilization with a Virtualbox event like booting a Vm...

I've upgraded the firmware from 27 to 31L - loosing by the way luminosity.

Upgrading the Lenovo Power Management service too (all 13 nov releases).

Seems to solved the BSOD...but

Since yesterday were the Y2P now loops in BSOD, even in any Win8.1 rescue mode.

I've passed the MemTest86 tests without any problem. So it's not a hardware memory defect.

Booting a Linux usb seems to work fine.- EDIT : I experienced a crash in linux...

So it's my Win8.1.

I noticed that my firewall service was down after making the firmware upgrade... it may have contrated a virus since then.

Plus all the littles anoying behaviours : 2 finger trackpad (ok it's Win8.1), 1 finger select, display flickering, display DPI (ok it's Win8.1 again), not-so-high-screen-luminosity with latest firmware, not-so-long-battery-duration, ....

So, I've decided to send back it to my dealer.

I'll try to recover it with my first full backup... Nope. The Recovery mode doesn't start but crashes.

Bad deal.

Did it start just after you updated your BIOS and Lenovo Energy Management?

Memtest86 is weak. It doesn't always detect errors. I usually use Prime95 for RAM testing.

On this, I'm going to recommend that you contact service - it is possible that this is a software issue, but it may also be a hardware issue despite the memtest.

Best regards,

Re: Yoga 2 pro BSOD

Hi all,

Has anyone found a solution to the issue described? I purchased a Y2P about a month ago and from the first day started having BSOD upon every restart. I ended up doing one touch recovery and returned the system back to factory. Issue happened again after installing some software. Nothing out of the normal and all compatible with Win 8.1.

Tech service suggested i send it to the repair center. I really like the machine so i agreed. When it came back i read that the motherboard was replaced, but not the HDD. Sure enough i turned the unit on, hit restart and the same exact BSOD popped up. The issue is still there. It was clearly not the motherboard. I am hoping it it a bad OS image. I called TS back and agreed to reinstall OS from recovery media lenovo sent me. Well, just go the CDs and they sent me 2 x CD 1, a 3 and 4, but no 2. This is so frustrating. I'm starting to regret my decision not to just return the unit after the first issues. The computer is practically unusable as everytime i restart it crashes. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I've already requested to have the case escalated at Lenovo.

Since reimaging from the HDD based one touch, I installed Avast Internet security, MS Office 2013, Canon untilities for my MX870, and Trusteer end point security, as well as the critical MS updates. The BIOS is at the latest 31. No other issues that i can see.

This are the two bugcheck codes that pop up after every minidump (happens every time the system is restarted, NOT shutdown fully. Just when restarted).

This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x14DCA0)
