Yoga 2 pro slow in other modes in win 10

2015-07-30, 18:10 PM

I have just upgraded to windows 10 and I have noticed that the Yoga 2 is really slow with the CPU throttled down to 770Mhz all the time when in any other mode(tent, tablet etc) than the usual laptop mode. Anyone with the same problem and how to solve it? Have read some similar threads after the upgrade to win 8 to win8.1 where the problem was the DPTF driver but do not know how to fix it now..

Have you tried updating DPTF driver from Lenovo's website ?
This was indeed well known issues with yoga series in windows 8.1. I have also just upgraded to windows 10. What I did was updating the driver. The last driver from Lenovo's site was version 7.1.0.21 03 dated 7/6/2015. I had no problem whatsoever. The CPU was never throttled to 770 Mhz in tablet mode, tent mode nor stand mode. I have checked all the modes. In fact, I see no performance issues on these modes. Although it might be too early to say as I just updated the driver earlier today.

Another solution might be by completely disabling DPTF from BIOS setup. You can enter the BIOS setup by pressing the button next to power button while the laptop is off. Howeer, I see no advantage of it for now. My Yoga 2 Pro now is now actually runing cooler. For the record, I have also disabled DPTF when I was on Windows 8.1. But I noticed, the fan sometimes is making noise even when I am only surfing the web. Now that I am on Windows 10, I can say that enabling back the DPTF helps the fan to run without making much noise.

Wish you best of luck.

I am suggesting you to try installing DPTF driver for yoga 3 pro. I also tried it and it was working great for me.

Just for a bit of confirmation. This was my Yoga 2 Pro on stand mode with CPU clock at 1.01 GHz.

You can also see from the graph that it went up higher than this frequency.

I am having the same issue. I tried updating the drivers, but it didn't work. I disabled DPTF in the BIOS and my system is faster than ever :)

This is because I use it closed and hooked up to a monitor most of the time, which this problem made evident that power settings were switching to tablet mode this whole time :(

I mainly use my Yoga 2 pro connected to an external monitor.

In Power options -> When I close the lid, I have set the "Do nothing" option. This setting worked perfectly in windows 8.1. However, after upgrading to windows 10, I noticed that my pc got really slow whenever I closed the lid. I was able to verify that by looking In the task manager -> Performance where I noticed that the cpu speed was constantly running at 0.77 GHz.

I followed the suggestion whadibrata described and disabled DPTF from the BIOS setup and now when I close the lid, the CPU speed doesn't decrease.

Thanks

My yoga 2 pro is slow (unusable) in all other modes than laptop mode.

I see disabling DPTF as a temporary solution. (can affect battery life).

Real solution is to get LENOVO working on a new Windows 10 DPTF driver for the yoga 2 pro.

Lets tell them this is important !

(FYI, in the tread below, a pre-windows 10 fix was given by vddobrev so to let CPU use more watts...)

disable a service called ymc! seems redundant in win 10 and works like a charm.

No, it's not. See my reply here.
