Yoga 3 14 High Pitched Fan Noise

2015-04-17, 13:29 PM

Hi there, I recently bought a Lenovo Yoga 3 14 with Core i7-5500U and I feel like there might be a problem with the chip because the fan is nearly constantly on and it is REALLY loud, and so far ive only done basic tasks like web browsing and document editing.

Also another unrelated problem I have is that 2-finger-tap right click isnt working on the touchpad despite the option in the settings being ticked.

Please help, I've been really dissappointed in this laptop because of these things and I'm sure it's awesome when it works properly

High pitched noise when fan spins

2015-04-04, 3:14 AM

Hello! I'm a first time poster.

I bought a Yoga 3 two days ago, and out of the box it has been making this high pitched noise whenever the fan spins. I've read through the existing forums on this issue but can't seem to get anything to work! I love this product so much but this noise is really annoying and I can't live with it! Ill try just about anything now I'm that desperate! This is my 3rd faulty new laptop in less than a month!

Thankyou all for your time! :)

I have the same problem with fan on my Lenovo Flex 2 Pro. Lenovo has to release a BIOS update to allow users set how the fan works. It is a common issue of Lenovo Flex/Yoga

for the trackpad issue, if you feel comfortable editing the registry, go here

As for the fan issue, it really shouldn't be running full on all the time unless under load, or if you happen to be working in a room that's abnormally warm. My first Yoga 3 had multiple issues with the fan (was stuck out of the box, and when it did start going, you could hear rubbing). Since I got my replacement, The rubbing noise is gone, the fan is pretty quiet normally, and the sound is reasonable when under full load.

cheers!

Same thing with my Lenovo Yoga 3 14inch.

Model number: 80JH

As soon as i got this the high pitch noise is bursting out. I opened the back panel I believe its coming from the fans. I tried to unplug the fans from the motherboard and turn on the computer and the high pitch noise is not there. Obviously without the fans.. computer will overheat like hotcakes!! so it is not recommended.

FYI.. I swapped it with JB Hifi twice already and it seems all of their stock are like that. TOO SAD!!

High Pitch Noise - Yoga 3 14

2015-05-22, 0:52 AM

This deviced has some serious issues. There is a high frequency sound emitted at high decibles from the laptop. This recently went on sale at BestBuy and I purchased one with a memorial day discount.

When I got the device I thought it was broken because of the terrible sound it made.

When I got to best buy I checked out the other Yoga 3 14 display models, and they all had the same defective high pitch noise coming from them. I also noticed two returns being factory reset for resale, both returned because the loud noise.

If you're doubtful, next time you stop by BestBuy, be sure to check out the display models. Even in the loud ambiance of a retail store you can hear the high pitch scream they emit.

In my office, I can't even use it because it disturbs my co-workers. In an office full of ultrabooks, everyone can identify the disruptive and defective sound from the Yoga. It's really unfortunate.

It's a serious issue with the Yoga 3 14. BestBuy is stockpiling open box defective units, and it's part of the reason they did a flash sale on the unit.

Lenovo is working on a BIOS update to address customer reports of fan noise. The update should be available in the next several weeks.

Thank you,

sg1995 & supersebie,

if you are still experiencing this problem could you please send me a private message, (envelope at the top underneath Search); as I have received a test BIOS which you could use to see if it solves the problem for you.

Thanks in advance

Andy
