Re: Yoga 3 14 High Pitched Fan Noise

2015-10-22, 17:12 PM

Dear Lenovo- team!

I've bought about 2 weeks ago a new Lenovo Yoga 3 14. As I'm a student, I was searching for a small notebook (in this case it's an Ultrabook) in order to be able to take it with me whenever I'll have to. Obviously the Yoga 3 14 has a very handy size and the design is just fabulous.

BUT!!!! How do you think is it possible to study complex stuff, if there is this annoying noise of the fan the whole day??? I already have a desktop PC, which has annoying fans! Just therefore I've decided to buy an ultrabook: To be able to study in a quiet environment!!! Somehow I think that you haven't understood, why people buy ultrabooks and notebooks.... There are two main reasons:

1. Handy size (You can take it with you wherever you want to)

2. It runs quietly!!!

Obviously you didn't manage to fulfill the second demand...

Still I don't think, that there is any problem, that can't be solved! Obviously, you weren't able to bring a High-End Product on the market, but if you identify such problems, please give us users some possible solutions!!! I think that till now we've all understood, that the new BIOS update wasn't the SOLUTION, so please don't mark it as such one!

The wish I have, is simple: Give us users the opportunity to adjust the fan speed and the fan activation temperature manually!!! Give us the possibility to improve the situation, and make the best out of it... I don't want to believe that  I've spent the whole money for nothing!

hi,

i checked this and was able to remove dust. but nothing else. no parameter or fanspeed setting :smileysad:

static void RemoveDust()
        {
            Task<ImClientRequestTask> task = (Task<ImClientRequestTask>)null;

            ContractRequest request = new ContractRequest();
            request.Name = Lenovo.Modern.Contracts.Fan.ContractConstants.Get.ContractName;
            request.Command = new ContractCommandRequest()
            {
                Name = Lenovo.Modern.Contracts.Fan.ContractConstants.Get.CommandNameDoDustRemoval,
                Parameter = string.Empty
            };
            Func<BrokerResponseTask, bool> responseReceived = new Func<BrokerResponseTask, bool>(methodcall_fan);
            task = new BrokerRequestAgent().MakeRequestAsync(request, responseReceived);

        }

Hi Lenovo,

I am experiencing the same problem with my Yoga 3 14. The BIOS update did not make a single difference. The fan is still making a loud noise (45-50 decibel) literally all the time. It never stops. Even when I am not using the laptop, the fan is going crazy. When can we expect a proper solution? I can't concentrate with this amount of noise. Thanks!

Hi Andy,

The update does not change anything about the fan noise! Anything else I can try?

I am bumping this thread too, as the latest release of the "Lenovo Utility" + ACPI Drivers + "Energy And Flight Mode Driver" and "DTMF" driver combination is causing this problem on my laptop now. I'm now lost as to which drivers should/should not be installed and am sure there must be some very order dependent component. The system reports 100% okay in diagnostics and is able to run ubuntu 15.10 from a USB/Live stick without a hitch is flipping out under Windows 10. Not only is the fan going full speed, the power drain is such that if I plug my cell phone into the USB3 socket to charge, the battery of the PC starts to discharge whilst plugged into to power as the 40W PSU is not able to keep up with the additional 10A of power drawn by my phone.
