Yoga 3-1470 Laptop (Lenovo) audio problems

Hello,

I have a Lenovo Yoga 3-1470 64-bit, which was originally windows 8. After updating to windows 10, the audio (Conexant HD Audio) starts to have some problems, such as the need to keep restarting my laptop to get the audio back. Recently it has gotten worse, hence I decided to uninstall the Conexant HD Audio driver from my device manager, with the hope that I can reinstall the updated windows 10 Conexant HD Audio driver. But after uninstalling, I found out that I cannot reinstall it back. The device driver installation wizard will only install for 2 - 3%, then a messagebox ERROR will appear stating that "Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the device for this driver." I have tried installing windows 8 and 10 versions of the Conexant HD Audio Drivers, but they do not work. Currently, my audio isn't working anymore. Can anyone help me, Thank you very much.

Re: Yoga 3-1470 Laptop (Lenovo) audio problems

Welcome to the Forums Fedrick!

See if you can manually install the drivers from the device manager.

Let’s assume you are using windows 7, below is are the steps:

Hold Start+R and type devmgmt.msc and hit enter.
Right click the sound card and select Update Driver Software
Browse My Computer
let me pick......
Have Disk
No goto the C:\SWSETUP\SP45166(or 28481 if you want to try that driver)\W7-(32 or 64 depending on the version of 8 you have) and select WAHERwa.inf

Let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Shashi

Re: Yoga 3-1470 Laptop (Lenovo) audio problems

I understand the rationale behind manually installing the drivers from the device manager. But right now, Conexant HD Audio is not in my device manager anymore, due to me uninstalling it there. Presently, I don't know where is the location of my sound card too... I am quite lost prior to my audio now too. I presume that I can reinstall back the audio driver through lenovo support page, but there is always an error hence I am not sure about that. I guess I will need more help before I can solve my audio problem.

Anyway, thank you very much.

With Regards,

Federick

Re: Yoga 3-1470 Laptop (Lenovo) audio problems

I had a similar problem with Windows 10 on my Yoga 3 1470, where the audio through the internal speakers and headphones stopped. The Device manager did not show any drivers in the "Sound, video and game controllers". Trying to install the latest Conexant HD Audio driver downloaded from Lenovo site, resulted in failure. The installation used to fail with no device for this driver. Lenovo support also tried remotely to fix the issue and encountered the same error. They suggested that they will restore the PC to its original state of Wndows 8.1 which would mean that I would lose Windows 10 and all the apps that I had installed including Office.  I was supposed to call back Lenovo after taking a backup of my files. In the end I fixed the problem myself. I understood that the hardware (sound device) was not being recognised to be present in the system. I disconnected the power adapter from the laptop, opened up the back cover of the laptop, disconnected the battery cable (the multi-colored cable) and plugged it back. Closed the laptop cover and restarted the laptop. Voila! The sound device was detected and Conexant driver automatically installed by Windows 10. The sound is working fine now.  I hope this helps others with similar issue.

Re: Yoga 3-1470 Laptop (Lenovo) audio problems

We are sorry to hear that your issue has not been fixed.

You could also use the System Restore feature to get your computer back the time when it worked.

Thank you Ranjan for the sharing us the information. Here is the HMM for Yoga 3. But As per the Lenovo policy, the warranty will be void if the laptop is dismantled by yourself.Hence requesting you to be careful on doing any changes to the system. However, I would suggest you to contact Lenovo service center and report your findings

Update us how it goes.

Re: Yoga 3-1470 Laptop (Lenovo) audio problems

I am facing the exact same problems as the two above. Apart from opening up my laptop is there any solution found for this?

Thanks!

Re: Yoga 3-1470 Laptop (Lenovo) audio problems

I am also facing this problem - rolling back my computer to W8.1 using the "reboot" button worked. Reinstalled Win10 and it "lost" my soundcard etc again.

So.. no fix?

Re: Yoga 3-1470 Laptop (Lenovo) audio problems

Thank you so much for the replies. I would have wanted to send my laptop for servicing but it would take a very long time. But looking through the replies, I doubt there is any possible solutions for me to fix my audio problems myself, and I do not want to downgrade my windows. I guess the problem may still be with the windows 10 operating system...

Re: Yoga 3-1470 Laptop (Lenovo) audio problems

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a proper solution and from what I understand, this just "happens" to some machines, even some new ones (replacements) etc...

I'm personally going to the Post Office now and sending my laptop, but I've already written to our IT department to remove Lenovo from hardware choices for now. Too gadgety - like a sportscar built with cheap materials.

Re: Yoga 3-1470 Laptop (Lenovo) audio problems

I tried resetting the OS(to Windows 10 original state), but to no avail.. Guess I will try resetting with the reboot button once.

---------

Update: Even after doing a complete factory reset, the issue persists. The one thing I have noticed is that Conexant Audio device shows up in the device manager, but is in disabled state as it says it can't find the audio device (Code 45). Very dissapointing.
