Re: Yoga 3 Pro Fan Noise

2015-05-16, 12:31 PM

I have had my Yoga 3 about six months. While I have noticed the fan noise, it was so soft and quiet as to be a non-issue. I am an early morning person and sensitive to noise, so I would certainly have noticed if there was a problem.

Starting yesterday, the fan has developed an annoying buzzing noise. It must be a mechanical problem of some kind. I tried shaking and tapping, but that made no difference. I'll call tech support I guess, but that is always such a waste of time. I have no choice but to return it. What a pain.

Re: Yoga 3 Pro Fan Noise

I bought my Yoga 3 Pro this week and this fan runs non stop whenever the computer is on and is so loud! I really want to like this computer and waited months to finally buy it but this noise is a true deal breaker. Sounds like disconnecting the fan is the only option so far (which I don't knwo how to do!) other than tapping it, which I tried and it seemed to get a little louder. I even pulled out my Lenovo X1 just to make sure this wasn't a normal noise level. Its very disturbing.

I bought mine 4 days ago. Working fine, until this morning it got a Windows "upgrade". Now the fan runs all the time.

Given the slow proces of having a guarantee,  I will return it to the store for exchange. The reaon is that here I note that for some users it run on and of, anf for some it is permanently on, like mine (it has been on for 30 minutes now, with no processor stress). I am afraid I´ve got a Leemon.

Lenovo -- do you have some advice here on the fan noise problem that so many users have mentioned?  I'm about to purchase one of these, but I'm not about to buy one of these unless I have some assurances that (1) the fan should not be running all the time, (2) the fan noise is barely noticeable, (3) that there are known and recommended solutions if (1) and (2) are not the case.

Thanks.

The noise I had was due to a failure in system update. It fixed itself the
next day.

what I learned:

The fan has 2 speeds, a normal, almos silent one. that is in use normally
when the computer is on.

a say, "turbo" mode, noisy that only appeared once in my computer, for 2 or
3 hours, the one I reported. I checked another yoga from a frind and is
the same. almost silent fan working all times, as is in almost all
laptos¿ps.

I work normally now.

Re: Yoga 3 Pro Fan Noise

Has anyone tried if there is different fan behavior running on battery or on power supply?

I have read that the fan is only there for use when charging and should not be needed when not charging (running on batteries only).

For me fan less use, 0 (zero) dB noise, is a deal breaker. I have ordered one Yoga 3 Pro but will return if this i a problem that cannot be solved.

Kind regards

Fan Works with AC as well as with battery. But noise is negigible. not =
DB, but very close. All laptops have fan.

I posted this complait but happened just for a momento afte actualization.
I´m happy now.

Thank you for reply.

I'm planning on using the computer for live music performance and sudden fan noice, no matter how low, is not acceptable for me. There are fanless laptops but the Yoga 3 is so cool...

Has anyone tried using the "NoteBook FanControl" (http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2014/04/this-handy-tool-keeps-your-laptops-fan-under-control/) open source tool?

Re: Yoga 3 Pro Fan Noise

I went ahead and bought the Yoga 3-Pro despite my concerns about the fan noise.  I also may use it for music performance, although initially I've just briefly tried it on the music stand of my piano.  So far, so good, and I'm very picky about noise levels, and it's not noticeable while playing.

I installed the fan control program and currently there is no config file for the Yoga 3 Pro.  I may try to create one, but won't have time to do it for a week or so.  I'll keep you posted.
