Re: Yoga 3 Pro lmcfrundll.exe Run Problem, how to fix?

2015-02-18, 7:35 AM

Amy - hopefully you will be reading this and can answer a couple of questions I have regarding apparent new issues, which may or not be to do with the temporary fix.

During the day I attach the Yoga 3 to an external monitor and use it solely in laptop mode with an external keyboard and mouse. I do not use the touch screen at all. (This brings it own issues when trying to balance the screen resolutions of the two devices, but hopefully a new 4K screen in due course will fix that problem).

Yesterday morning I ran the roll back that you posted and assumed everything would be fine. But no, when I took it home and tried to use it in Tent mode I discovered that the touchscreen has completely stopped working. That is apart from the Windows icon at the bottom of the acreen which permits switching from Desktop to "metro/modern". That does work. Is than an issue that you are aware of? Or could I have turned off the touchscreen function somehow without being aware of what I was doing? Your thoughts would be helpful.

Secondly, I have tried to use the Veriface function, but I cannot work out how to capture the face intiially. I can open the program which permits the turning on and off of the function and sets the security level, but how do I record the face in the first place. I have read the help section but that sheds no light on why I am not seeing the registration screen.

Since purchasing the computer for £1500 I have been beset by firstly, the Harmony high CPU issue (now fixed), the LMcfrundll.exe issue (hopefully being fixed), the battery not charging issue and now these two new issues that, quite frankly, make me regret my purchase.

Can I ask that you, or one of your colleagues responds with some guidance on my two latest issues, which are adding to my frustration with the device. If I experience any further "malfunctions" or have to spend yet more time researching issues that otherwise could be spent more productively, I shall have to disucss an alternative with the retailer I bought it from.

Thank you in advance for a full response as to what is going on with the Yoga 3.

Adrian

Amy - scratch my comment regarding VeriFace. The system went into standby and when it restarted the "face registration" page came up and now all is good.

Amy: can you confirm that your team has recognised that many users are experiencing a charging problem that appears to be associated with the lmcfrundll message?  Are you working on a fix for the charging problem or only the message?

Amy - are you our lifeline to a succesful and bug free computing experience? I hope so, but my patience is being tested.

You will see from my post above that the touch screen is no longer working on my Yoga 3. When I access PC Info I see a message that "No Pen or Touch Input is available for this display". I have no idea where it is gone because I would not knowingly remove such funamental functionality.

Can you help me get the touchscreen working please without asking me to restore to factory settings.

Thank you.

Adrian

Yes I have tried Amy's Fix and it does work.  Have complete functionality and no errors anymore.

Upate to my post above. It appears that something had disabled the touchscreen HID device in Device Manager. The only thing that I did recently was to install the Chrome extension for Chromecast, which admittedly is still in Beta, so maybe that had some impact on the touchscreen functionality. Anyway pleased to rreport the return of touch. And the VeriFace functionality is pretty cool too.

I did run "Refresh your PC without affecting your files", restarted the Yoga 3 Pro, and voila - the problem is gone!

Now, I need to reinstall all of the removed apps one at the time, and I'll follow up.
