Re: Yoga 3 Pro lmcfrundll.exe Run Problem, how to fix?

WOW.  While I appreciate your input topmahof, I find it extremely worrying that a community operator here at the Lenovo forums seems to have the policy of ignoring all updates and advice from all Lenovo apps.

What an encouraging sign!!

Since I think we all understand that a Lenovo update to the Lenovo Multimedia and Communications Framework Custom Rundll (lmcfrundll.exe, updated on my system 7-Feb-15) caused this problem, I don't think it's any surprise that you won't see the problem if you disabled ALL updates. While you can be thankful you avoided THIS issue, that approach will cause you far more problems in the long run than it resolves.

For the rest of us (and most PC users) who allow Windows and our PC manufacturer to update programs and drivers when updates become available, we rely on Microsoft and PC manufacturers doing due diligent to eliminate obvious bugs before release. It appears that Lenovo didn't do that in this case, and they need to fix the problem ASAP (48 hours is already too long).

I went ahead and updated Harmony and that stopped a high CPU usage.  OKO was showing an update for itself, now it isn't.

I don't ignore updates, I just don't let updates automatically install themselves all at once.  Windows updates have broken some things in the recent past. I never let Windows install any updates for hardware, such as the graphics adapter.  I trust Lenovo driver updates for the hardware.

I ran the Intel update utility and it shows no updates are needed, but Windows showed an update for the Intel Management Engine, so I hid that update.

I'm sure Lenovo is investigating this, give Amy a chance to do her thing.

Regards,

Dave

I just used System Restore to restore to my last saved System Restore on 5-Feb-2015, and everything was working fine. To make sure that One Key Optimizer didn't try to update and recreate the problem, and to stop the tons of PLCoreService errors I was getting in the Event Viewer Application logs from Lenovo Paper Display (another story), I then uninstalled One Key Optimizer and Lenovo Paper Display so they wouldn't update.

At present, all seems to be working OK.

I'll CONSIDER reinstalling those Lenovo apps when 1) there is definitive information that problems have been fixed and 2) I see some reason that I need them.

Re: Yoga 3 Pro lmcfrundll.exe Run Problem, how to fix?

Same thing started today.

In my case, I had to restore system a couple of days ago. I got this machine 3 weeks ago, and let all the automatic updates enabled. It was a little annoying because every once in a while, I saw messages on the upper right saying 'automatically updating...' etc etc. But that's not too bad. And a couple of days ago, some updates were automatically installed (no idea what they were), and right after that, the system didn't boot at all (no start screen). Power was on, but just black screen. It seemed OS started behind the black screen, but didn't show up. I powered down by holding power button, and after that, system restore menu came out. I was scratching my head (which method I choose....I picked one system restore point, and the restoration failed), and I almost went to factory restore. Luckily after several rebooting, I was finally able to keep my personal files and account information, and the sytem went to near-factory settings. MS-office and several apps were uninstalled automatically at that point (html document was automatically created on the desktop).

I rebuilt the system by reinstalling these apps, and this time, I disabled automatic updates for Lenovo-made utilities/apps.

Anyway, my experience may be totally irrelevant to this error message, but I'm just throwing information out.

Hope Lenovo figure this out soon.

If your conclusion is that the Lenovo apps are causing lots of unnecessary problems, I think you are correct.

Lenovo is aware of this and is working on it.

Thanks, but this is so obviously a major problem that it should have been fixed before release, so every minute it isn't fixed is lowering my view of Lenovo. Right now I'm about ready to rip off all of the Lenovo apps from my new and pricey Yoga 3 Pro, which I otherwise like pretty well.
