Re: Yoga 3 Pro with Windows 10 freezes when moved

2016-09-12, 7:58 AM
There are a few threads on this but it is worth posting in all of them so that others can benefit from a frustrating problem:

I had managed to fix the freezing by reinstalling or rolling back drivers. I didn't keep notes on from what to what though.
It started happening again this week so I tried as I did before but to no avail.
So, I thought I would reseat the wireless card which is a simple job. It appears to be slotted in 0.5mm further than before. Not sure if this is a factor as I am sure all the pns were makeing connection before.

Anyway, so far so good and I am still on a driver from 2014.
I will update if it goes bad again

It's not solved for me. I have pre installed windows 3 time, and after 3-4 weeks - freezing starts again. No matter if I use win10 or 8.1.

Stop blaming the software, it is a hardware problem, and you owe it to Lenovo. No re-install or driver change will permanently solve the issue (not in my case at least).

The good news is, it is actually quite easy to solve it by yourself. Check out this thread: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-3-Freezes-when-moved/m-p/3487252#M45558

Yep, after reading all of the suggestions to update drivers and reload Windows, none of these solutions sounded logical to me. Had to be hardware. I just opened up the laptop and removed and reseated the wireless card. Closed it back up and it worked perfectly for a few months and then started acting up again, so I repeated the process. Working perfectly again. Kind of annoying, but a hell of a lot better than having the laptop freeze every time it moves! If you don't have the right tools at home to open your laptop, you can get them on Amazon for a few bucks. I bought this set for about $8.50 US, but you can find them even cheaper, if you prefer. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E590BZK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Re: Yoga 3 Pro with Windows 10 freezes when moved

2017-01-28, 19:26 PM

My Yoga 3 Pro laptop (upgraded to Windows 10) recently started “freezing” every time I adjusted my monitor.

I went to thesupport site and installed ALL the recommended driver, but the problem remained.

Then I did some reading online and found this post: http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/id-2721547/yoga-pro-freezes-constantly.html

I followed the instructions provided, and updated the Broadcom 802.11 Wireless Network driver using the “Update Driver…” feature in the device manager (from version 6.30.223.102 to 7.35.338.0).

This appears to have fixed the problem.  It seems like Lenovo should update their support site to keep other users from experiencing the same problem.

Thanks for this information.

When I clic on Update driver... from the Device Manager I do not get the option to download the broadcom 7.35.338.0 version.

Is it possible that you upload the driver file from your computer somewhere we can download it? or send it by email?

Thnks

I have a freezing problem too. If the Network card is my problem, what I can't understand is that when I leave the Device Manager dialogue box open, & the Network Adaptors open & showing, (in my case the Broadcom 802.11ac Network Adaptor), shouldn't it disappear when I jerk the display back & forwards until everything freezes. That is if the Network card is loose or contacts shorting.

Turns out, this driver did not completely resolve the problem. It is much less frequent than before, but still happens from time to time. I'm sure it is a hardware problem (as posted elsewhere in this thread) but that some drivers handle it better than others.

If you want to upgrade to this version, you can download it here:

 http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/NETWORK-CARD/Broadcom/Broadcom-Network-Adapter-Wireless-Driver-7353380-for-Windows-10.shtml

Hope it helps.

After reading all this advice I figured I'd have to open up the back etc. I even bought the special screwdrivers from Amazon. However, I went into 'Device Manager', selected 'Network Adaptors', right clicked on 'Broadcom 802.11ac Network Adaptor' & selected 'Update Driver Software' it then stated that that was the latest driver. That's all I did & I haven't had any freezing since. I hope that's permanent--time will tell. Very strange!!

Another Yoga here with freezing problems when moved. No drivers update solved the issue.

Laptop still in warranty (2 years in some countries in EU), will send it to factory for a repair and ask them for a very convincing explanation.

After this I can safely say that this will be the last Lenovo for me.
