Yoga 3 Touchpad is Noisy. Is that normal?

2014-12-02, 4:13 AM

When you lightly tap the touchpad to start moving the cursor, it makes a noise.  It's almost as if its being depressed around one mm every time you touch it.  Now, I'm not talking about intentionally pressing it down and hearing a click.

Just lightly putting your finger on the pad.

Is the feeling of it depressing slightly and making a small noise normal?

I ended up swapping mine for another. The display model and my new one still have a slightly noisy pad when you lightly touch it. More than I'd prefer. But not as bad as the one I returned. Odd, must have been a loose pad or something. I'm typing this on a mac air running windows and the pad makes no noise whatsoever with a light touch... I guess I need to stop comparing the the two and move on :)

Hi deputydog95,

I find if I tap lightly, there is no noise. If I tap a little harder, there is a slight noise which sounds like the touchpad moving a bit. If I click, there's a definite clicking noise.

.

If you want to adjust, Touch sensitivity is in the Mouse Control Panel (under Synaptics Device Settings Advanced).

Hope this helps!

I'm wondering if there is something wrong with mine. It's driving me nuts. Every time I put my finger on the touch pad, even lightly, I can hear a noise. It shouldn't bother me, but it does!!!

I had the exact same problem last year when I got my Yoga 2 Pro.

I wasn't sure if it was normal, so I went to local Best Buy to check out their various ultrabooks on display to see if any of them did it.  None of them did.

I had bought the Yoga through Best Buy's website (because it was actually cheaper than buying it direct from Lenovo), so I ended up simply returning it at that local Best Buy.  The customer service desk jockey claimed it was normal but didn't object at all when I pushed back and said I just wanted to return it anyways.

I then went online and bought another one from Best Buy's site.  When I got it, it was just fine - no noise at all from the pad. Still use it every day and it's still fine.
