Yoga 3 pro HDMI connected, Problem with external monitor resolution

2015-07-14, 16:17 PM

Hello, I have just purchased an HDMI female to micro-HDMI male connector and tried it out with my Yoga! Everything works flawessly I managed to play two 4k videos from youtube simultaniously on both screens and I had no problems with performance which surprised me.

But, after all there is a little problem. My external monitor supports 1920x1080 resolution max and when I move some of my windows from the laptop to the external monitor some of them look really really really big, some of them actually get resized correctly but many dont. For example ini the screenshots you can see how big an icon looks on the external monitor, I cant even see my whole Task manager, the right-click menu on the desktop takes up 1/9 of the screen and more. Is there a way to fix this or I will be the retard at work who bought a laptop for 1700$ and nothing works at 100%?

I am not an expert at this but I think 2 monitors work best when the resolutions are same.

Have you set the Y3P at 1440p and the external at 1080p?

The Yoga is at its default resolution 3200x1800 and the external monitor is at 1920x1080. Some apps are correctly rescaling when I move them to the external monitor, but some (windows!) stuff is not.

I would recommend setting the Y3P resolution to 1920*1080 as well.

Then, you can go into Display settings (Right Click on desktop > Screen Resolution > Make text and other items larger or smaller) and adjust the size.

Restart the system.

Not all apps will scale properly, this is a limitation of current software, which is not built for a UHD screen.

I have tried that already it doesnt fix the problem (everything still looks really big on the other screen) and when I run the Yoga at 1080p resolution everything becomes blurry and I even get a message saying that my resolution is lower than some recommended resolution.

Did you restart the machine after making those changes?

Did you adjust the text and item size?

Did you perform the DPI scaling?

If I lower the dpi scaling down to 100% and restart my external monitor now looks fine, but everything on the Yoga becomes tiny. Is there a way to set different scalings for the differenet displays? If I can set 200% to the yoga and 100% to my external monitor everything will be fine.

I agree and thats why the Yoga needs be on the same resolution as the external monitor and you may need to resize the text and other items.

Sorry but I do not know of any other solution.

I could post back with my screen settings and scaling in the evening after work.

Btw, all metro apps work fine on both screens, no matter what the scaling is.
