Yoga 3 suddenly not charging anymore, plugged in but battery sticks at 0%, hardware issue ?

Hello Everyone,
My Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro-1370 Laptop is working perfectly fine since I bought it on Décember 2014, however since last week it suddenly stopped to charge.
The battery charge is now stuck at 0% and the only way to use it is to plugged it in.

Strangely on the task bar the battery icon at 0% still displays "charging" but it won't charge at all.
As soon as I unplug power cable the laptops just shuts down within seconds.

I didn't do any software updates prior to that happening, so I am wondering if this could be coming from hardware?

For instance, dead battery (I don't know maybe 2 years of daily use and it's over), or power charger/cord is not working properly, not allowing charging laptop's battery.

My laptop is out of warranty, BTW.

Has anyone experienced this ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi there, Rzalexis                    -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

You can also start by flushing out all static, remove battery and AC adaptor and hold down power button for about 15 seconds.

Update us how it goes.

Re: Yoga 3 suddenly not charging anymore, plugged in but battery sticks at 0%, hardware issue ?

Dear Shashi,

Thanks for your suggestions however it was not helpful.
First since it is a Yoga 3 model, the battery is built-in I can have access to it, so I can't remove it...

I push power button for 15 seconds, also no outcome, still "0% charging battery forever" when power plugged in.

I've been to some IT repair shops, they suggested to replace the built in battery, since it could be dead (I hardly understand that since I had 2 hours of autonomy and suddenly 0%, usually batteries gradually lose autonomy).

They ask me 90 EUR to replace with an non originial battery (reproduction) since we have no official Lenovo shops or maintenance company in all North of Paris. May you suggest such an official Lenovo spare parts provider in/ around Lille city where I live ?

Since I have my Yoga 3 laptop for 1 year 10 months, my 1 year warranty has already expired.

Many thanks

Alexis

If system is in warranty, i would suggest you visit the nearest Lenovo service centres for assistance. Schedule a Call-back for faster support.

Update us how it goes.

Re: Yoga 3 suddenly not charging anymore, plugged in but battery sticks at 0%, hardware issue ?

Hi,

Do you actually read by replies ?

I was specifically mentioning my laptop is out of warranty (expired since 10 months) however you still recommend me to call a Lenovo service center...

Right after mentioning taking out my battery (which is impossible because batteries are built in in all Yoga 3).

You provided me great service support for the moment (irony).

Could you at least tell me the exact reference of my battery (Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro 1370 / 80HE) so I could order it by myself genuine or reproduction, and actually change it by myself.

Looks like Lenovo support in Europe is really not the quality other computer makers provides, thus explaining why it is still not so popular here as a reliable brand...

Re: Yoga 3 suddenly not charging anymore, plugged in but battery sticks at 0%, hardware issue ?

2 years could be a full life for a battery - it depends on how many charge cycles.  I have one of that model and mine will be 2 years old next spring.  On mine, the battery run time is decreasing and I would not be surprised if I needed to replace it soon.  The battery is actually not hard to do yourself.  You need to remove the 10 little Torx screws and pop the rear cover.  The battery is right on top, held on by 6 screws.  I would suggest getting a genuine Lenovo battery either from Lenovo or someplace like eBay.  Part numbers are 121500264 or 121500267 (same part, different supplier).

Re: Yoga 3 suddenly not charging anymore, plugged in but battery sticks at 0%, hardware issue ?

There was a similar problem with my Yoga Pro 2 where a similar thing occured - battery wouldn't charge sometimes; sometimes got the "Battery not detected" warning...  Then, I realized it was shutting down when I moved it from place to place...  this got me thinking - was something loose???

Yes, the case flexes and trips a sensor that is meant to disable power when the machine is opened.  Apperently this is a common malfunction in ThinkPad Yogas.

I found a website that showed how to solder a jumper over the sensor and disable it.  It worked like a charm.

This was 2 years ago.  I am here now because the same thing happened with my slightly newer Yoga, and before I start surgery I was looking for other ideas... haven;t found any.
