Yoga 300 - supports another HDD? What stylus? Linux support?

2016-02-03, 0:53 AM

Hello,

I was looking through the service manual and it seems the 300 could support another hard drive. However, I'm not sure if this is the case with the eMMC 32GB model.

Secondly, what stylus will allow me to write precisely on this laptop?

Thirdly, how well does this machine work under Linux as of now? Does the touchscreen fully work, are there problems with drivers etc.

Thanks, VOT.

Certainly the touchscreen does not work on a Yoga 510-14AST (note that the 3 digit product name often describes quite a range of hardware) out of the box - I'm currently seeking some clues from Lenovo as to what hardware implements this (nothing detected by the diagnostics in Linux). But apart from the touchscreen, auto-rotation and Firewire, everything else works - so it was still a good buy as a basic but robust laptop.

And regarding a Stylus....I believe that due to the nature of the touch detection it needs a large contact area. If the large rubber ones seem too imprecise, then you can get ones with a small, clear perspex disc. There are review on Youtube.
