Hi kartik468 , Welcome to the Community Forums ,...

Hi kartik468 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums ,

For your Y500 laptop , you may check your manual  .

You may turn off the computer first and use the Novo button (number1 page 7) to turn it on.

It would offer the Novo menu for BIOS set up

For the hadware manual , you may click on this (for further reference )

Hope you find this helpful.

Regards

Re: How to enter BIOS?

Thank you spidey101 for the reply.
Is there any other way to open bios which does not include the use of Novo button?

Re: How to enter BIOS?

Hi kartik468 ,

Greetings.

The way BIOS is coded as a firmare would depend on the motherboard manufacturer and model.

Aside from the Novo button /hole you can try FN + F2 on power on  that works on other system.

Check if that works too .

Regards,

Re: How to enter BIOS?

Thank you spidey101 for your comment.
I have tried pressing F2,F12 and del along with FN key but to my disappointment I was not able to enter the bios.
The only solution according to you is to press the Novo button right? And when the laptop is shut down i just have to press the Novo button which will automatically start bios, am i right?

Re: How to enter BIOS?

Hi kartik468 ,

Greetings.

Seems that BIOS program for your model would have novo key to use.

Just turn of the computer.

Instead of using the power button  , use the novo key to turn on and it would show the Novo Menu.

Second option is BIOS set up.

Other machine would have FN + F2

Turn computer back on using power button and hold down FN key and F2 during start .

How about , turn on with power and then just keep tapping F2 as tried on this link.

Other than that , Novo button is a specialized key made for Ideapad for BIOS and recovery  to prevent accidental access.

Go ahead and try it , update us how it goes.

Regards,

Re: How to enter BIOS?

Interestingly, the Novo button is one of the easier ways to enter the BIOS I've come across. I briefly owned an Asus cheapo-crapola laptop with the sole intention of giving Linux a go. To enter the BIOS on the Asus I had, the procedure was to restart and immediately start banging on the Delete key, rapid fire, like the pig in Toy Story working the TV remote. If it didn't work the first time, rinse and repeat until it does.

Re: How to enter BIOS?

Hi ras47 ,

Great that it worked for you as a resolution.

Novo key also give access to the hidden factory restore partition as you would see on the Novo menu.

placing it on a separate button is really a nice touch on Lenovo.

Cheers,

Re: How to enter BIOS?

Thank you spidey101 for your help.

As you said earlier to use the Novo button to enter the bios.I did the same and entered the bios.

You see i wanted to open the bios to increase the memory of the integrated Intel graphics card.

The problem is that I could not find any option or menu to increase the memory of the Intel graphics card.

So my question is that is it possible to increase the integrated graphics card memory in my yoga 500?

Re: How to enter BIOS?

Hi kartik468 ,

Great that you managed entering BIOS,

Increasing RAM on BIOS would be changing it under Information tab System memory.

Then choosing the highest among the option.
F5/F6 changing value if allowed by the system.
Then on Exit tab , save changes and exit .

There are also alternate methods that you can try.
You can also use a spare USB to add ram using readyboost features of windows.

Hope this help you solve your need.
Update us on how it goes.

Regards
