Yoga 520 14 with 128 SSD.. which type fitted - 3.5 inch or M2?

Hi all

I have a 520 model with a 128 GB SSD if I upgrade it to a 240 Gb should I get a 3.5 inch SSD or do they have the newer M2 type inside?

Also could I upgrade the RAM 4 to 8Gb at the same time.. presuming DDR3?

anyone done it already.

Re: Yoga 520 14 with 128 SSD.. which type fitted - 3.5 inch or M2?

Hi Grazuncle9,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

General specifications for Yoga 520 14 as follows :

Some: HDD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, removable, upgradable

Some: SSD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm high (e.g. xxxGB SSD)

Some: M.2 SSD / PCIe 3.0

16GB max / 2133MHz DDR4, one DDR4 SO-DIMM socket for the ram

I suggest you share the machine number / MTM (ex. 80X800J1PB) from the sticker or get it here from parts look up to detail what you got and probable upgrades for it.

Update us soon as convenient.

Regards

Re: Yoga 520 14 with 128 SSD.. which type fitted - 3.5 inch or M2?

Thanks for the pointer... just tried a quick look at Device manager and under Disk Drives it showed the HD as

Samsung MZVLW128HEGR-000L2

The storage controller says Standard NVM Express Controller

I googled the drive number and Samsung site said:

Interface

PM961PCIe Gen3 x4

Storage controller .. Is NVM and PCIe gen 3 the same thing?  just wondering what to buy..

Can't see memory type listed on device manager Smiley Sad

apparently the 256 version is... MZVLB256HAHQ

Re: Yoga 520 14 with 128 SSD.. which type fitted - 3.5 inch or M2?

Hi yoga 520-14IKB,

Greetings.

Checking the specifications for your Yoga 520 MTM 80X800S4UK you can get up to 1TB of a 2.5'' 7mm SATA HDD/SSD drive box (blue) added to your Samsung m.2 128 GB storage stick (22w X 80L ),PCIe3x4 (green).

You can also replace the current Samsung m.2 pcie Gen3 x 4 lanes up to 512GB. Examples of certified parts here on the manual (page 77 item 12 for the m.2 SSD stick and item 11 for the HDD box).

The current 4GB 2400MHz DDR4 (orange) can be replaced with 8GB (up to 16GB) RAM stick like here on page 76 item 10 on the sigle slot.

Doesn't have to be OEM brand as long as the specifications matches like what other resellers may offer.

Regards
