Yoga 710-14ISK - battery life problem

2019-06-24, 9:07 AM

Hello,

I bought a Yoga 710-14ISK in november 2016. I am very satisfied by this product, but for a few months, something strange happens with the battery. When it reaches 40% on battery power (not charging), sometimes the computer warns that the battery is low, the percentage of the battery change to 1%, and then the computer immediatly switch off. It doesn't happens every time, I would say in 20% of the cases. Of course it is very annoying. And this week, it happened with the battery was around 60% (not sure exactly).

Any idea of the reason of this problem ? Of course it started a few months after the expiration of the warranty...

Thanks !

Hi Yodalf,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

I am thinking of the battery integrity since it is a consumable part.

You can try using it until the battery indicator goes red. Shut down the machine and have a charger connected for 3-4 hours while it is turned off. Do not power on the machine during charging but just observe if the battery LED goes from blinking red to solid white.

Here we are checking on the electrical charging and not using any other tools / software to measure. If it stays amber and not solid white (page 28 battery indicators) then you may have the machine check for possible battery replacement.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Hi Spidey101,

Sorry it took me a while to do what you suggested... And yes I confirm that the battery LED goes from blinking white to solid white when charging. It doesn't stay amber.

What would be the next check ? Does it mean that it is a software problem and not an electrical problem?

Thanks a lot for your support !

Hi Yodalf,

Greetings.

It does show that mechanical charging is ok and it may be possible that the software reading it maybe not accurate.

You can try going to device manager and uninstall the battery driver. Restarting it should reinstall a fresh driver back. If you have any power managing software, then you can uninstall it likewise if needed.

Uninstall the battery driver when the battery indicator say it is going down so you can try to do the same charging without turning on until the amber led goes solid white then turn back on.

Regards
