Re: Yoga 710 - 14ikb 80V4 - latest system Intel driver update broke audio (solved)

Hi,

I tested a quicker way of resolving the issue. You can bypass the system restore part of the process. The source of the issue is the hdmi audio driver that comes from the with the windows update. The update installs the wrong driver for audio device causing a code 28 error.

Steps :

1. Download DDU Uninstaller, and uninstall the driver for the Intel video card. This app will automatically stop win10 from installing any driver for the video card.

2. Download and install the latest video card driver from Intel.com. I recommend using the intel driver update tool.

3. Download the windows update troubleshooter from support.microsoft.com, then hide the update for all Intel video card driver. This part will ensure that the issue will not re-occur after the system does another windows update or after you restart the computer.

4. Re-install the audio card driver.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

I did this but the sound is still delayed and not as loud. The only thing that got fixed was how the audio would be loud then quiet.

Exactly the same issue. An update has killed my audio. It first happened on the 14th and I fixed it recovering resetting the laptop. It happened again (didn't know a fix was needed) yesterday and now the resetting would not fix the issue.

Seriously upset that a brand new laptop with less than a 100h of use is already giving me headaches and forcing me to look into forums and whatnot to find explanations. If I wanted this I would have stuck to my 7 year old ASUS.

Re: Yoga 710 - 14ikb 80V4 - latest system Intel driver update broke audio (solved)

Hi Jamdy17!

Thanks for the detailed answer. However I tried it and didn't work, maybe I'm doing something wrong.

I have a Yoga 510-14ikb with windows 10 home (v1607 compilation 14393.393, audio by harman). As everyone else, after the new update I lost my audio driver, I reinstalled it but know I don't have sound for the first 5 seconds. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling and also updating the drivers. I attach a picture with my current audio devices.

I tried following your steps:

1. I uninstalled the audio drivers (both)

2. I uninstalled the intel videocard with DDU uninstaller

3. I installed the latest video card drive from Intel but in that moment I checked my audio devices and they were already working with the same drivers...maybe there was and automatic install after rebooting the PC.

4. Then I used the  windows update troubleshooter butI think it was already too late because the drivers were already reinstalled...

In summary, I keep with the audio problem :(

When you say "4. Re-install the audio card driver." are you talking about the Realtek High Definition Audio (SST) or the Intel(R) sound? Which device is the one having the problem?

Thanks for any answer!

Hi jlhuepe,

On Step 3, the system should only detect a MS basic adapter if the system still detects the Intel HD graphics the issue will persist.
On Step 4. Yes it is the Realtek HD.

Well, some of the suggested solutions on page 3 do work, but not well enough.

The sound quality is still not acceptable, by far.

Thanks everybody though who tried to present different problem solutions.

But Lenovo - hey , time to correct this error is NOW.

Lenovo realy urgenly needs to come out with an bug fix for this problem. My Lenovo Yoga 710 is not even a month old. This eror was not only annoying but hindered my work.
