Yoga 710-15IKB 80V5 Trackpad replacement

2017-07-13, 22:36 PM

Last week I spilled drop of coffee+milk on my trackpad and it stopped working properly (I know you think I must have actually dropped a gallon but I asked my friend to come over and open my laptop with me and after we opened it, he couldn't see anything -- he was skeptical that I had dropped any liquid whatsoever, so, yeah, it was a drop of milk+coffee on the wrong place..). The pointer was behaving erraticatly and my friend and I, not tech savvy but rational ppl, figured that it must have short-circuited.

So I went to ebay and order a replacemente part. The trackpad came with the keyboard + palmrest. The trackpad seemed to be a perfect match. The palmrest was a little bit different. My laptop has the fingerprint reader but the one I ordered didn't have. I thought it wouldn't make any difference since I only wanted the trackpad.

The replacement arrived. I swapped the trackpad, made sure all cables were connected (there's actually only one but you got the point), closed my laptop, turned it on and... the trackpad was still not working.

Does anyone have any idea of what I should do next?

I took a closer look on the letters and numbers I found on the trackpad and compared the original with the replacement and there's one or two numbers/letters that are different but they are otherwise identical. I can't make sense of why it didn't work and can't think of what to do next. I'd really appreciate some feedback.

Thanks,

Hello Jflima

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

The issue might not be with the KB/touchpad, but the motherboard itself.

But as the part is not the one that should be on the unit, you can`t really expect it to work 100%.

I would suggest that you visit the support site, and check the parts lookup/hardware manual for your unit, this should give you the part number that you should be looking for.

Also,Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.

(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)
1. Turn the unit off
2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter
3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds
4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter
5. Turn the unit on as normal

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

It worked!

I have the replacement trackpad and krakken's solution worked like a charm. Maybe the original trackpad would still work but I won't try it now.

Thank you so much, krakken!
