Yoga 710 External CD/DVD Drive Issues

My Yoga 710 no longer recognizes the portable CD/DVD drive I bought to use with it. Both were purchased together in July 2016, and the drive had worked in the past (last used to make a recovery media disc in September 2017). The drive is an LG Ultra Slim Portable DVD Writer (model SB80NB60).

When I connect the drive or insert a disc, the disc spins briefly then stops suddenly. I get an error  message saying "USB device not recognized - The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it." The drive does not show in File Explorer but occasionally shows up in the device manager as "unknown USB device (device descriptor request failed)." I've tried uninstalling that entry and refreshing device manager, unplugging/replugging the drive, using a different USB cable, and checking the USB controllers for updates.

I checked LG's support site for any updates but there are none for my device's service code (NB70). Any suggestions?

Re: Yoga 710 External CD/DVD Drive Issues

Hi mjjones90! Welcome to Community Forums.

Did the issue happen after an update? Try to roll back the driver of the DVD drive. If the issue persists, check for Windows update and install it. Let us know how it goes.

Re: Yoga 710 External CD/DVD Drive Issues

Thanks for your response. I'm not quite sure when the issue first started because I hadn't used the drive since September 2017 and have installed several updates since then. There is no DVD/CD drive entry in Device Manager, so I can't rollback the driver. Other than the disc spinning for a bit, my computer doesn't seem to detect the drive when I plug it in.  Windows Update did not show any relevant updates, and I've also tried the suggestions on the Microsoft support page with no luck.

Any other ideas?
