Yoga 710 - How restore the Function Keys to default behaviour ?

2016-08-02, 19:52 PM

Hi,

Just bought a Yoga 710 but its a lot of trouble to work because of the Function Keys not performing the usual tasks unless you press the Fn key.

Can this be corrected ?

The small right shift kety is also an annoyance.

Also do we have any keyboard shortcut for the right click ?

Thanks !!

Hi ab001atl ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

When hotkey mode is disabled, press the Fn key and the appropriate hotkey to access the corresponding hotkey function. (page5)

By default, the hotkey functions are accessible by pressing the appropriate hotkey. However, you can disable the hotkey mode in the BIOS setup utility. To disable the hotkey mode:

1 Shut down the computer.

2 Press the Novo button and then select BIOS Setup.

3 In the BIOS setup utility, open the Configuration menu, and change the setting of HotKey Mode from Enabled to Disabled.

4 Open the Exit menu, and select Exit Saving Changes.

Context menu provided with right click mouse have corresponding key on traditional keyboards in between the right alt and ctrl keys (may not be available for the yoga due to design) as shift +F10 .

Else onscreen keyboard may help or simply use a key remapping software to assign the task of right click to another key such as this and this.

Update us how it would work for you.

Regards

Hi

Greetings.

A ballpen or tip of any blunt point tool would do nicely.

Turn off the machine and press the Novo button (item2 page 63)to turn it on would give you the Novo Menu . Choose BIOS setup to proceed.

Update us how things go.

Regards

I registered just to leave you a like spidey101.

I came home and got on my comp did some usual email checks. And surfed the web. Before i went to get off my comodo wasnt working and i couldnt access any of my virus apps.

At this point i started to get a little worried. So i figured id restart it to see if it got any better then things got worse it took forever to start up. And when i got to my desktop the internet kept popping up and my computer kept playing funny sounds in the background. At this point i was like oh s***. I hurryd and backed up all my work info and proceeded to do a reset to my surprise i couldnt reset it just wasnt coming up. Not even with msconfig. Or run app. So i again tried to restart my computer thinking i could quickly run the rsvui.exe but when i got to my login screen there was no where to type my login jist a big blank blue screen. I had my power options still and tried to shift click the restart several times i restarted with no success....

At this point i was furiius and worried. Did some more digging and found this thread with the novo bios button. Mine is really tiny i had to dig through all my boxes to find a poker for one of my phones sim card slot.

Turned off my computer. Poked the button and to my surprise a bios menu my heart fell easy after that. And then i realized my keyboard wasnt working. Not a problem i plugged in a keyboard laying around and soon had access. Got to my settings tab through bios and am now restoring my computer.

Thank you soooooo much for all your help and knowledge i couldnt have done it without you.

You are a computer hero sir (:

What was the reasoning behind disabled function keys as the default setting? I'm a software developer, so I know that really interferes with the normal use of the computer. I was confused by it; for people who are not power-users or are familiar with reconfiguring a computer on a regular basis, many would think the keyboard was broken and try to return the computer as defective. Was it just a manufacturing mistake?

Hi FudFighter,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

By default, hotkey settings are enabled in the BIOS.

Using specified combination FN keys set for each model, some users prefer to use F1-F12 as independent keys for their application so disabling it from the BIOS is needed.

Aside from manually disabling hotkeys, some update in BIOS may also do changes on its default configuration.

From the factory, Hotkeys / FN combinations are all active to provide the feature that the model offers as shown in each manual (here on page 29 for the yoga 710).

Regards
