Yoga 710 - Shut Down Loop When on Battery

Recent issue that started in the last week but I have not made any changes to the system other than potential Windows automatic updates. When on battery my Yoga shuts off anywhere between 1-5 minutes. This problem is continunous until I plug the AC power back in. Went through settings and I cannot figure out what is causing this. Battery is fully charged and indicator reads as such. Has anyone had this issue?

Re: Yoga 710 - Shut Down Loop When on Battery

Edit: I noticed that when I unplug the AC Power, the battery light indicator next to the charging port started to blink orange after about a minute. Battery indicator in the task bar still shows 95% percent and the battery has been plugged in long enough that it should be fully charged. However, the light does not blink every time. Last time I unplugged it the light never came on but the computer shut down after about one minute.

Does anyone know how to force the battery to cycle?

Re: Yoga 710 - Shut Down Loop When on Battery

Hi, Dcast  –

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Do this test -

1) Switch off the laptop.

2) Disconnect power supply. Keep the battery connected.

3) Try to Turn ON the laptop.

If the laptop does not turn ON, the battery is faulty.

Also, Try turning the laptop off, removing the battery, unplug the AC adapter, press and hold the power button for thirty seconds, install the battery back into the laptop but don't connect the power cable and try to start the laptop on battery power.

Make sure when you are plugging the cord in for the laptop that you plug it in the normal orientation as if it still had the grounding plug so you don't reverse the polarity of the socket. I don't think it should affect anything, but it's probably better to just keep it plugged in correctly.

Update us how it goes.

Regards,

Re: Yoga 710 - Shut Down Loop When on Battery

Hello,

I tried the first test and the computer turns on without an issue. However, it still turns off after about a minute.

I had hoped to discover there was some type of software bug prior to opening up the laptop but I am going to search for the right size torque screwdriver now and attempt test two. I will provide an update.

Re: Yoga 710 - Shut Down Loop When on Battery

Looked around but I don't have any screwdrivers small enough to open the back casing so I won't be able to access the battery. The computer is only about seven months old and does not have any issues when on AC power so I am thinking there is some type of faulty battery issue. I may just submit a warranty claim. I was hoping to avoid doing so if there was a software fix.

Re: Yoga 710 - Shut Down Loop When on Battery

This could be a faulty battery. This usually happens if the battery is not communicating with the system properly.

YOGA 710 15IKB keeps turning off itself

It keeps turning off itself in a few minutes after unplugged even though the battery is fully charged.  Resetting it to reinstall Windows didn't make any difference.  It doesn't appear to be a thermal issue because it runs OK when plugged in.  I wonder if there's anything else to try before returning it for repair or replacement under warranty.

Yoga 710 keeps shutting down randomly despite full battery

I've had my Yoga 710 for about a year now and it's never had any issues. However, I was using it yesterday and it randomly shut off. Since then, every time I attempt to use it without plugging it in, it will shut down after a few minutes. It will only stay on if I keep it plugged in despite the battery saying it's 100%.

I'm not too good with technology so I'm not really sure what the problem could be. I checked all my hardware and there aren't any issues. My laptop is also up-to-date with Windows updates.

Re: Yoga 710 keeps shutting down randomly despite full battery

Hi sarrahhc,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can follow try checking operational charge here on page 22.

Software readings may not be as accurate when the battery starts getting degraded but still being detected functional.

Physically try observing the battery status indicator (page 28). If it is currently blinking amber then it indicates 5% charge or less. While the laptop is off, connected the charger for 2-3 hours without turning on. We expect that the blinking amber should turn white (20-80% charge).

Update us how it goes.

Regards
