Yoga 710 shuts down when not plugged in even though it’s charged

My yoga 710 MTM #80V50000US shuts down and completely turns off after a few minutes of being unplugged. The battery is fully charged at 96% and can’t charge any more than that. The battery test states that the battery is in good condition however it does not charge more than 96%. The conservation mode is not on. What could be happening here? I’m seeing that others have posted recent similar issues for the yoga. Is there an issue with the recent Lenovo update?

Re:Yoga 710 shuts down when not plugged in even though it’s charged

Hello @ Yogikar !

Welcome to the Community Forums!

Please share here your Yoga 710 laptop's BIOS version/date.

Press Windows + R key then type in msinfo32 to open the System Information window to get the details from there.

Just to ask, when did the issue started to happen? Did this started to happen after an update?

And did you made any changes to the Yoga 710 laptop as well before the issue started to happen?

Please try performing a power drain to your Yoga 710 laptop first by pressing/holding its Power button for 10 to 15 seconds until it turns OFF.

Once done, power ON the Yoga 710 laptop again and check if it will still shut down when not plugged in to its charger.

Also, check if your Yoga 710 laptop will also turn OFF when it's in Safe mode.

Thanks,

Re:Yoga 710 shuts down when not plugged in even though it’s charged

BIOS Version/Date    LENOVO 2XCN38WW(V2.12), 7/10/2018

I tried your suggestions of Safe Mode, and the other suggestion of holding start for 15 seconds. Neither worked. Battery does not charge above 96%, and computer continues to shut down after 1 minute of not being plugged in. This issue happened spontaneously.

Thanks for responding @ Yogikar !

By the way, please look and launch the Lenovo Vantage app on your Yoga 710 laptop then go to the app's power settings/options.

From there, search and select the battery details button and post here its details by attaching a picture/screenshot.

As for the battery that isn't charging past 96%, how long does the ac adapter connected into the Yoga 710 laptop?

You may also uninstall the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery driver in the Batteries tab in Device Manager.

Device Manager can be accessed by right-clicking on the Start/Windows symbol.

Once uninstalled, restart the Yoga 710 laptop and check if it will now charge past 96%.

Check if the machine would also shut down when it's unplugged from its charger.

Another thing to do from here is to load the BIOS settings into defaults by pressing F9 or FN + F9, then, highlight/select for YES followed by F10 or FN + F10 then highlight/select YES again to save the changes & exit.

BIOS Setup can be accessed by pressing the Novo button that's located in the left-side view of your Yoga 710 laptop.

Make sure that it is OFF first before pressing.

Update us how it goes.

Thanks,
