Yoga 710 won't boot

2017-04-10, 15:55 PM

Hi everyone!

I have a 14 inch Yoga 710.

Today I used my computer for coding in lab for a while and after a turned it off I connected my phone to the always-on USB port as I sometimes do. Put my computer in its sleeve and also in my bag and my phone to my pocket, connected to the USB port charging. But the cable I used was a little damaged and only conducts electricity in specific positions. It is throughly isolated though, no leakage. While I was outside, walking, I realized that my phone was connecting and disconnecting and thus vibrating very frequently. Thinking I would connect it in class in a position where it would continuously charge, I disconnected it and after I came to class reconnected it to the same port. After a while I realized it was not charging, so I thought I'd turn the computer on and then connect. However, though the power light was on and it was at 70-80%, neither the screen nor the keyboard turns on. I suspect I damaged the battery. Is there a solution I can try without physical intervention? If not, I will take it to service tomorrow. I need my computer to work properly this week. Thanks in advance.

Hi yoga_bear ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Without any connected device , try to reconnect the ac charger back and check the battery status led (page 28).

Try powering the machine by pressing the power button and check the power indcator if it would turn on.

Turn it off aain and use the Novo button (inserting a pin ) as it should also turn on the laptop with a Novo Menu appearing onscreen.  Check again on the power led ,display and keyboard .

If same issue then I would suggest calling in technical support or the service center for needed service.

Regards

Thank you for your response. I followed the steps.

  • Connected AC adapter: Batery light is blinking thus is between 20-80% (likely 70%).
  • Powered the device: Indicator light is solid white.
  • Turned off.
  • Pushed Novo button with a pin: No Novo menu appears. Power led is solid white. Display and keyboard don't respond.

This is actually the second time I tried these with the AC adapter on. Might letting it run out of battery somehow help? I'm trying that at the moment.

Hi yoga_bear ,

Gretings.

The Yoga 710 should run even without the battery but the issue is the display or failed to continue post (power on self test).  Using the novo button should allow Novo Menu that exist outside Windows but still no display or menu screen.

Try to connect on any external monitor to confirm that the machine failed to boot to Windows .

Usually removing battery and unplugging the machine to drain flea power by  pressing the power button down for 12 seconds helps. Since the machine have covered warranty , you are not required to open up the cover and instead call in technical support for warranty service.

Regards

I am having the same issue. Phone came partially disconnected from computer, computer gave me some error about "device not working properly," and screen went black when I clicked ok. Bluetooth also turned off, and the fans were not running anymore even though the machine was hot, which implies this is not just a screen adapter issue. - Lenovo yoga 710 15isk - Fully charged. - The power light goes on when pressed, and off when held for 10 seconds. - Power light also turns on when I use the Novo button, but the screen stays black. - Tried standard steps to no avail. I saw somewhere that someone took the thing apart and removed the battery and re-seated it, and that fixed the black screen, but I have not tried this yet.

Hi! So the problem was easy to solve, but not something you can do yourself. It’s been a few years now but as far as I remember, it was due to static electricity accumulation in the battery. I took the computer to the service and got it back in two hours! They didn’t charge me anything as my guarantee had not yet expired too! Hope this helps.

Of course if you can remove and reinstall the battery, you may try. In my case, I didn’t do that due to waranty.

My Yoga won't boot up brings me to the choose an option page to : recover from a drive , troubleshoot or turn off.  I have tried everything.  Even booting from a recovery drive it gets a little ways in then says something has happened to stop.  I changed out the SSD drive thinking it was bad still the same thing.  Any suggestions????
