Yoga 720...Anyone get 4k @ 60Hz on external monitor?

I have been reading the fourms including several similar posts regarding the Yoga 910.  I just purchased a Yoga 720 (72015IKB-80X7) and have tried a couple Type C adapters without any luck and am curious if anyone else has had any success.  I am conntected to a LG 27UD69P & was able to get 4K @ 60Hz via the display port on my Asus n550JV before it died (hence my new Yoga).

I have tried the following adpaters:

  • Cable Matters Typc-C to HDMI adapter (201018-BLK) - I was able to get 4K (3840 x 2160), but only @ 30Hz
  • Cable Matters Type-C to DisplayPort adapter (201016-BLK) - Just received a blank screen on my montitor (Windows did not see the 2nd display)

BTW...I e-mailed Cable Matters support & their reply was "it might not work on a Yoga 720." which ws not very useful, nor helpful.

Interested if anyone else has had any luck.  I have a Plugable Type-C to HDMI 2.0 adpater coming tomorrow.  Hopefully that will work.

Re: Yoga 720...Anyone get 4k @ 60Hz on external monitor?

Fixed!!!  Plugable support quickly replied & suggested to turn on "deep color" on my LG monitor (which was off) & I can now get 4K @ 60Hz.  I also check my other adapters & here  are the results.

  • Plugable Active Mini DisplayPort to HDMI 2.0 Adapter (MDP-HDMI) - I was able to get 4K (3840 x 2160) @ 60Hz
  • Cable Matters Typc-C to HDMI adapter (201018-BLK) - re-tested after turning on "deep color" &  was able to get 4K (3840 x 2160) @ 60Hz.
  • Cable Matters Type-C to DisplayPort adapter (201016-BLK) - Still received a blank screen on my montitor (Windows did not see the 2nd display).  Working with Cable Matters support to resolve

I just got the Yoga 720 15.6" 4K. How did you connect the plugable MDP-HDMI? I do not have a MDP port. Did you use the USB C thunderbolt?

Re: Yoga 720...Anyone get 4k @ 60Hz on external monitor?

Just noticed that...it was a type-o on my part.  I got the Plugable "Plugable USB-C to HDMI 2.0 Adapter" model USBC-HDMI to work @ 4K (3840 x 2160) @ 60Hz (copy/pasted from the wrong Amazon item).  Sorry for the confusion.

BTW, while I do like the Plugable smaller size & build quality better than the Cable Matters adapter.  I did find the Plugable adapter to have a very loose fit into the USB-C port which meant any laptop movement would cause screen flicker on my monitor.

Finally, Cable Matters did send me a couple additonal Displayport adapters to try on the monitor (assuming different firmware installed on each).  I did get one of them to actually work @ 60Hz, but I don't think you can order it outside of contacting their customer support.

How can you tell if you are running at 60Hz vs 30Hz?

Multiple ways to tell. For me, it's obvious based on how smooth the mouse cursor moves. At 30Hz, it's noticeably choppy, while 60Hz is buttery smooth.

One true way to tell: Right-click desktop -> Display Settings. Make sure your TV is selected, then scroll to the bottom and click "display adapter properties", then click on the Monitor tab and see what refresh rate it gives you.

A lot of 4K/UHD TV's that do 60Hz probably have a menu or Info button on the remote that will display the current display mode.
