Re: Yoga 720 Display Issue

2017-12-20, 14:39 PM

afterdark,

The date of manufacture is right on the bottom of the laptop, clear as day (in microscopic type).

The members of this forum are almost exclusively owners of the failed laptops. My source at a major big box retailer told me that the instance of this failure is actually very small. There certainly were many more thousands of them made, so I guess it's just bad luck that I had 2 bad units (hard to believe). We know that the new display part was becoming available in September and they were shipping parts late that month. I would have to say that a laptop made from October on should be ok.  Mine seems to be good, so that's all I can add.

I wish the moderator (Andy) would be more forthcoming with information and add to the discussion. Lenovo certainly has the best idea of what happened and to what SN/date units.

Re: Yoga 720 Display Issue

Purchased a 720 with 4k screen from Best Buy December 15th. Was a Christmas gift, so not opened until the 24th.  2 days later the black line appeared, straight across the top. The laptop had never left the house, barely moved it at all.  Believe the manufacturer date was late November.

A search turned up this forum. Very helpful!  Decided to exchange for a new one.  No problem, Best Buy happily swapped it for a new one.  While waiting I checked the one they had on display, it had the line too! But diagonal vs. level like mine (so just the top right corner let loose, vs. both).

2 days with the new one, so far so good, no line. But too soon to be sure yet.

So Lenovo/Best Buy are still deliberately selling defective machines, even though they must be aware of the issue? Wow, just wow.

It's not only from Bestbuy, im not from USA and got the black line, suggest to go for the FHD.
BTW battery life on FHD is bettrt by 20% over the 4K.

I sent mine back in. I set the desktop to two pictures of the light bleed and a note saying to fix it. I made it real quick in paint. I made a left a picture of all back and told them to view it in slideshow, go in a black room, and see it for themself. I havent got an update in two weeks. That might be a good thing. I can only hope that it is taking this long because they are doing something to fix it or waiting for better screens to come in. In the note I said I paid extra for a 4k screen. I dont want light bleed or a black line.

Hopefully Andy_Lenovo is still monitoring this feed. Truly believe you did well on this topic, after reading 64 pages, I just want to know if you have heard any success stories from anyone that has contacted for a new screen. I too have had the issue described but due to lots of traveling, just have not had time to call and believe I missed the return window at BestBuy. Let me know please if you have success stories. thank you.

Welp, guess what? My machine has the black line now. It lasted a bit over 6 months before it happened. I didn't drop the machine or anything to make it happen, it just appeared one morning. I can't seem to make it go back up, like by tapping and shaking it and stuff, though it has moved up a tiny bit.

Support is sending a box for me to ship it in for repair. Really hope I get a decent replacement screen. Light-bleed doesn't bother me usually, so I think I can handle a little bit of that. I just want the colors and contrast to be on par with this screen and I'll probably be happy.

I also mentioned the touchpad randomly doesn't detect touches and it's maddening, so they're going to check that out as well. I imagine all they'll do is wipe the C: drive and put the latest driver for the touchpad on there, which I don't want them to do so I might request they either replace the physical touchpad or just leave the one that's in there - do not touch my OS and data. I really don't want to go through 2 installs of Win10 again and the 500GB+ of software I have installed.

WOW Guys,

By the looks of it, doesn't look like anyone is doing anything about it! Lenovo shows this as solved by the huge green button on the top of the page, which takes you to Andys post. Anyone see anything from Lenovo? I'm still dealing with this issue. This YOGA 720 15" 4K UHD is my only device I can use for work and can't afford to be without it.  Truly disgusted how this has been handled. You would think there would have been a better effort being made by such a large conglomerate. We are but WHISPER to them. Microsoft, ASUS, APPLE would have a solution and those devices are in the same price range. They've taken our hard earned money. No true resolution has been given other than call put a ticket in we'll get to it when we get to it... only to have the same thing happen again as stated by many other postings here. Last time LENOVO and now I'm proactive about not recommending LENOVO products especially the YOGA line.
