Yoga 720 Phantom Keylock

I've had problems with my Yoga since I got it in November. Smiley Sad  The issue is that shift/ctrl/win/alt keys are LOCKED randomly and can only be turned off by rebooting.  At first, I thought I had sticky keys turned on and turned off EVERYTHING related to them.  I just spent an hour rebooting my laptop repeatedly and other things trying to get the win key to TURN OFF.  While I'm typing, it would suddenly pop up various windows and wouldn't let me type the letter h. It's extremely frustrating and the closest commentaries I've found online with anything similar stated that it was a hardware malfunction that someone else had to send theirs in to be fixed (a different lenovo machine).  I use this machine for work and am trying to avoid losing it while it's fixed.  Any fixes I may be missing?

Note: I can tell what's locked when I hover the stylus and it has a little box that pops up that says WIN or something else showing that it's on.

Re: Yoga 720 Phantom Keylock

Hello TiffanyR

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

Unfortunately not come across this before, but here a few things you can try and do:

Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.

(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)
1. Turn the unit off
2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter
3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds
4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter
5. Turn the unit on as normal

Try running an LSC scan, see if this is able to find anything for you at all:

1. Please click on the following link
2. Under the section ‘Download’ select the relevant Hyperlink dependant on whether your Lenovo is running Windows 7/8/8.1 32 bit or 64 bit.(Will work on Win10)
3. When prompted, select save and browse to a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded files.
4. Navigate to the folder where you saved the installation file, lscsetup_x86_26001.exe.
5. Double-click the installation file icon to start the installation.
6. Follow the onscreen instructions via the installation wizard that will install Lenovo Solution Centre on your system.
7. Once installed you will have a ‘Lenovo Solution Centre’ icon on your desktop please click to open this.
8. Once solution center is opened please select ‘Checkup’ then ‘Hardware Scan’ and ‘Full Scan’
9. This will take up to 20 minutes, see if this can find any errors.

You could also run a virus scan and see if that is able to find discrepancies around your computer.

Make sure that your chipset drivers and others are up to date, you can find drivers on the support page:

https://support.lenovo.com/de/en

If none of these help, your last resort step should be a factory reset, this will rule out any software issue, if the issue persists after this, then it will be a hardware fault indeed I`m afraid.

Note: Please back up all your data as running this reset will delete any data on your machine

1. Turn the machine off and press the recovery button which is located usually next to the power button. If you have a desktop machine you will need to power the machine back on and keep tapping the F2 key.
2. Use the arrow keys and press enter on system recovery. ( Desktop users can skip this)
3. Select “restore from the initial backup” and then “Next”.
4. Click “start” and accept the warning messages.
Length of time can vary depending on the speed of the machine.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.
