Yoga 720 Touchpad unresponsive

I have the Yoga 720-15IKB, and the touchpad will become unresponsive periodically.  At times, it will not respond at all.  Other times, I will move my finger and nothing will happen for a second or two, and then the cursor will jump across the screen.  I notice it most often when I am using a web browser, both edge and chrome.  I have Windows 10.

I have updated all the drivers and still get this behavior.

Thanks for the reply.  Unfortunately, I did see that post and tried those suggestions.  It did not fix the issue.

Re: Yoga 720 Touchpad unresponsive

Have you attempted to update the BIOS as well?

This seems to be the solution for some.

But I can also see that there is a few posts going around with people who seem to have the same or similar problem to yours with this machine.

I would recommend that you get in touch with your local Lenovo support line and follow up with them as well, its possible they may have information on this already.

Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Re: Yoga 720 Touchpad unresponsive

I have the same issue.

I turned off Adaptive Brightness in Power settings and the problem has gone away!

Lenovo Support: Please fix this problem because I want Adaptive Brightness but right now I have to have it disabled in order to use Windows without any hitches.

I don't know how I figured it would be this setting, but it was! I just had a hunch when I noticed the adaptive brightness was causing the display to gradually change brightness but looked like it was lagging while it was dimming/brightening itself.

Re: Yoga 720 Touchpad unresponsive

So, I think I may have finally fixed the issue.  After dealing with Lenovo Support, they suggested I take to geek squad since I bought at BB to have the touchpad replaced.  I did that.  However, that did not fix the problem.  In fact, at times it seemed even worse and the keyboard would also stop working

So, tonight I was watching my processes while I was messing around and noticed that the "Lenovo Yoga Mode Control" process was using a decent amount of CPU.  Looking into it, this service monitors usage and will diasble the keyboard and touchpad when appropriate (probably when you flip the screen to use as tablet), except I think it doesn't know when is appropriate.  I went into services and turned it off and set it to manual.  Since doing that, the issue appears to be gone.  I will give it some additional testing time, and mark as solution if it doesn't come back.

Re: Yoga 720 Touchpad unresponsive

This is a common fault. Mine has done this from new. I have made a claim under the warranty, but lenovo has completely ignored me. They even had the cheek yesterday to inform me that my warranty is about to expire and would I like to extend it. What is the point in extending something that is worthless!
The only way I have found to make the touchpad responsive again, is to hit the left and right directional arrows several times until the touchpad is responsive again. This always works eventually and is the only fix.
This is my first and will be my last lenovo computer. Apart from the touchpad not working properly, I have no driver for my disc drive and cannot install one.
Lenovo is just rubbish!

Re: Yoga 720 Touchpad unresponsive

So, I have tried to have this repaired multiple times.  Best Buy geek squad tried once, Lenovo tried once.  When it came back from Lenovo it was missing the fingerprint scanner, just a hole in the computer.  I told Lenovo about it and they were supposed to be sending someone out, but it has been a month now with no word.  I called again and asked to escalate and they were supposed to call this week, but didn’t.  This whole process has been ridiculous.  At this point, I will never buy another Lenovo product, and I suggest you don’t either.

Re: Yoga 720 Touchpad unresponsive

So, let me provide an update.  I had another repair attempt by Lenovo in which they did at least install the fingerprint scanner bracket, but they did not send the repair tech the actual scanner.

I had to escalate it up to customer care, and let me tell you, that is where things just go down hill really fast.  I had a customer care case manager, Christie Campbell, call me about 20 days ago.  This was right before they finally came out and attempted to fix it for the third time.  I called her to let her know that they did not send the sensor and that tech also noticed that, in addition to the fingerprint scanner, they did not even put all the screws back in the computer.

Christie now refuses to return phone calls (I have called and left at least 5 messages over the past 20 days).  She won't respond to email.  She talked to me once, for a few minutes and seemed very uninterested in helping me in any way.  She said she would check with the repair depot and never called back.  I am sure that she thinks she can ignore me until they finally fix it and I will go away.  However, I am owed something.  I really want a replacement because it has been taken apart and put back together by people who have done a hurried and incomplete job so many times that who knows what else will go wrong with this.  At the minimum, I need an extended warranty.

This is not Customer Care.  In fact, it can't be anymore because I will never be a lenovo customer again.  My recommendation to anyone thinking about buying this product, or any other lenovo product, is: don't.
