Yoga 720 Touchscreen Not Functional (Wacom Driver Issues after Windows Update?)

Happy holidays, all -

I recently bought my girlfriend a Yoga 720 when they went on sale at Best Buy. She loves it, but the touch screen doesn't work at all. Per a few hours of research, I've discovered this is an issue that has been documented not only in this forum, but on Reddit and elsewhere, too:

It seems the Windows Creators Update messes with the Wacom driver. I can't seem to get it working. I've tried updating drivers from Lenovo and Wacom along with several other solutions. In the device manager, the Wacom Device has an alert on it reading "This device cannot start. Code 10. STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR."

Has anyone found a better fix for this, yet? It seems insane Lenovo hasn't addressed it, and more so, tells users its a hardware problem when it clearly is not.

Thank you for any help you can provide. I'm losing my mind trying to fix it and would hate to bring the laptop back!

Re: Yoga 720 Touchscreen Not Functional (Wacom Driver Issues after Windows Update?)

Exact same issue.  Purchased two of these (720-13IKB).  At start up, both worked fine.  One went through Windows update and now the HID-compliant touch screen and pen drivers are gone.  Halted the other unit's update so it still works.  Comparison of drivers list shows clearly what the issue is.  Two differnt techs at Lenovo support called it hardware issue and said unit needs to be sent to them for screen replacement!

Went back to Best Buy to have them look at it. Geek Squad woudn't look at it because they already knew what it was...Lenovo 720 touch screen compatibility issue with Windows update.  Per BB/GS, Lenovo is aware, but has not announced when/if it will be fixed.  Neither Lenovo tech would acknowlege this.

If I send it back to Lenovo for the unneeded screen change, I'm sure my return window at BB will expire before I get it back, likley still with the driver issue unresolved.

It seems Lenovo just wants people to return these and buy another brand.  That's a real shame, because this really is a nice unit.

Lenovo - Acknowlege the issue, provide a fix date and I'll wait for it.  Keep acting like your customers don't know what they're talking about and you will lose them , at least this one, forever.

Exact the same issue here. Bought lenovo 720s 3 days ago. The touch screen was working during the initial window setup process. After the install completed it has the same driver issue as in the first post.

Lenovo support WHERE ARE U?

Same issue on X1 Yoga - touch screen and pen are not working, neither in laptop nor in tablet modee. Issue very likely appeared after installing Windows Creators Update a couple of days back. I updated all Windows and Lenovo drivers and firmware (both from the website and through Lenovo Vantage) and issue still persists. Trying to update the WACOM driver seems to do nothing.

In fact, my system information now indicates that the laptop does not have any touch screen or pen input available. There are also no conflicts in the Device Manager panel, and there are no touch screen devices under the Human Interface Devices within the Device Manager.

Re: Yoga 720 Touchscreen Not Functional (Wacom Driver Issues after Windows Update?)

An update for everyone else clearing suffering from this:

I called Lenovo up and they’re well aware of the issue. They say Microsoft is the one screwing it up and they need to release the patch. As of Christmas, way more people have bought 720’s due to them being on sale. This has escalated the issue for Lenovo, they told me, and they’re pushing Microsoft hard. Nonetheless, they offer a laundry list of potential short term fixes, including not using Windows Update. Ultimately, they told me to return it and not buy a 720.

The guy also was exasperated for having to deal with this on every phone call.

Thus, I write this forum post from my new Surface Pro. I took their advice and returned the 720. This is ridiculous.

Thank you for the update! But why is this topic marked as solved? It clearly is not. Suggestions from Lenovo representatives to return the laptop and buy something else are not a solution.

Re: Yoga 720 Touchscreen Not Functional (Wacom Driver Issues after Windows Update?)

I spent some time today on Live Chat with a Lenovo representative regarding this issue. He logged on to my machine, checked that all Lenovo updates are installed and then concluded that I should do a System Restore and revert to a Windows version prior to Creators Update (my touch screen was working prior to that). No effort to actually resolve the issue, and no information on whether this issue will be addressed more systematically (especially because reverting back to an outdated version is not really a solution, and Windows will keep trying to update itself again). So in the end, Lenovo support ended up being essentially useless.
