Yoga 720, Win 10, shuts down instead of going to sleep

I've had this happen a few times and only when I least expect it.  I thought that perhaps it didn't like me disconnecting devices after shutdown but after several rounds of testing, I think the problem is closing the lid (which is set to sleep) but not always.

Is anyone else finding that sometimes when the computer should sleep that it's shut down completely, without hibernating, thus resulting in a cold boot the next time it's started up?

Each time it's happened, I've found the following event in the event log at the same time that I expected the computer to sleep, so I know that it's not a case of an attempt at hibernation that failed.

Closed the lid, it appeared to go to sleep normally

Re: Yoga 720, Win 10, shuts down instead of going to sleep

Hi, Michaelh  –

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Please do try changing these settings in Power Options that may help.

- Open Power Options then click on Change Plan Settings then Change Advanced Power Settings.
- Expand Hard Disk then set Turn off Hard disk after to NEVER.
- Expand Sleep and set Allow hybrid sleep to OFF.
- Set Hibernate after to NEVER.
- Do also set Sleep Mode to Never.
- Click Apply and OK then test it again and see if the same problem will persist or not.
- Do also make sure that the mouse and keyboard are both set to wake up the laptop.

Update us how it goes.

Re: Yoga 720, Win 10, shuts down instead of going to sleep

1) You've got too many changes. If changing changing all of them worked, I wouldn't know if only one was required or which one.

2) You have me turning off sleep. I'm pretty sure that turning off sleep will "fix" the problem since it's related to sleep

3) Turning on keyboard and mouse wake from sleep would have no effect since you've had me turn off sleep.

Based on other reports, I've turned on hybrid sleep (since it was off by default) and will see what happens. If the shutdown happens again i'll try one of the other settings, one at a time.
