Yoga 720 fan noise

2017-05-01, 8:44 AM

Last week I received my new Lenovo Yoga 720-13, i7-7500 512ssd 8GBram,
am really disappointed by the fan noise, it's silent when doing nothing, but as soon as doing light tasks like watching youtube the fan kicks in and gets too loud. The CPU can be displayed at 3% in the task manager the fan will run anyway,
i searched for BIOS update, and there is no update in lenovo site .
No windows update .
no viruses or malwares .

and i noticed that alot of people talking about this issue in forums, and still no solution by lenovo !!!!

so there is any help ???!

If you are on bios 1.05, Go into bios setting, and turn off "performance" in the power options.  That worked for me before i RMA'd it.

Hello Mohamedaburahal

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

It looks like there is yet to be fix for this fan issue, I have also seen a few posts around with this issue.

I would recommend contacting your local Lenovo support centre and they may be able to follow this up for you.

Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Never mind.  I shouldn't skim posts before having coffee.

fwiw, my 15 only fires up the fan when I'm actually running an intensive task.

I just bought a HP Spectre and send it back because Yoga 720 have better CPU.

What a surprise that even with no tasks opened this laptop is going to fly somehow.

I dont want any silly fix such as programs or BIOS updates to reduce the fan notice, because that means that the laptop won't have the ventilation that its asking for at the moment.

Is this a known issue? Is there any fix?

I would appreciate an answer before its too late to send it back.

many thanks!

Hi mohamedaburahal,

Thanks for your reply. With so many Yoga devices with this issue I won't expect anything wrong with your laptop. Its just how its built.

Mine doesn't even have more than the antivirus installed + Chrome. I updated all drivers so after checking online I saw many cases like this one.

I also found ways to reduce the fan speed but warning that CPU might get hot.

Im just trying to find out if this is a necesary feature, or just a known issue that will be fixed by Lenovo.

Good luck with your device!

Thanks,

Betreff: Yoga 720 fan noise

See my answer here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-720-FAN-NOISE-UGH/m-p/3684114#M52314

You can see all the time the cpu temp in the tray, so you don't must be afraid, that the cpu gets too hot. For me it is a good solution.

Please keep us posted.

I just got my 720.  I do notice that for the most part it is silent, but even at 30-40% load the fan kicks on pretty loud but aside from that it is silent.  I kinda thought this is how they designed it.  I do notice that even under very heavy load, the laptop is still room temperature to the touch, it doesn't even get warm which is good considering how loud the fan gets.
