Yoga 720 keys not working

2019-09-12, 15:34 PM

Hi, Im suddenly experiencing a strange problem with my Yoga 720. Following keys are not working/responding at all: x m c , and Enter. They do however seem to work after "warming up" (meaning the laptop is atually warm due to ativity). This problem is ofcourse extremely annoying, since I have to use the screen keyboard to do anything. Does anyone have any tips? Or experienced anything similar?

I started having the problem after reading having the laptop in "pad" mode (turned around).

I have tried

-Updating drivers and updated everything

-removing keys and cleaning

-turning it off and on

-typing in different settings (also in command field)

I have a Yoga 730 and am experiencing the same issues recently too.  My troubled keys are Backspace, Tab, the left Shift key, T and Y.  It kind of makes the keyboard (and laptop) useless now. With others having similar issues around the same time period, I wonder if something got messed up in an update.

I found pushing the keyboard cable together were it loops under the battery resolved the issue.  After removing the keyboard cable I found it had sticking tape that was not peeled off.  After peeling off the tape the cable stuck together and keyboard works perfectly.

I too have been plagued with key as well as touch pad problems. For me the keys were in a diagonal line - c,d,e,3, and the volume down keys. Since failures were intermittent and the fact that after pinching/bending the case a bit the keys would start working for a time... long story short... I opened up the case, detached the keyboard and touch pad cables and re-connected them. 24+ hours later I have not had the issues return. 24 hours was enough to tell me it is a hardware issue and likely related to poor cable connections. I feel somewhat confident if the problems return, it is related to these connectors and I can repeat the process. Perhaps there is a way to clean the contacts but I'll only investigate that if the problems return.
