Yoga 730 13 - Powerbank charger USB PD (Power Delivery) 12V 1,5A - 18W.

Hi,

I got and AUKEY PB-XD20 with USB PD (Power Delivery) 12V 1,5A - 18W.

When I connect it to my yoga it charges it for few seconds than disconnects. Repeating the cycle over and over.

The thing is - when I turned Yoga off and leave it connected to this power bank time the % of the battery is going up.

When Yoga is up, after few cycles it gets crazy and hangs - forcing me to restart it.

Can someone at Lenovo take a look into it and allow to charge it with some lower wattage while off? I do not want to break anything, but this cycle is probably worse than constant power delivery.

Re: Yoga 730 13 - Powerbank charger USB PD (Power Delivery) 12V 1,5A - 18W.

Hi madseasonlive,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The power demand of the machine is 65W so the USB power bank is insufficient to provide enough energy to even power up and utilize the machine's resources.

Similar to this discussion, a different power bank should be needed (those that can deliver more close to the need of the machine for charging).

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

You are claiming that it needs 65W even while it is turned off? Smiley Very Happy

I am monitoring my laptop, usually while it is doing web browsing it uses 10W, so please do educate yourself a bit Mr "Sr Support Specialist"

I am using 60W wall charger with it - and it charges while I am using it with no issues - impossible according to your claim Smiley Happy

What I am saing is - It should be possible to use PD powerbank even if it delivers less power while device is turned off.

Usecase - I am using my laptop somewhere, and my battery is dead. I could throw it in my backpack connected to powerbank, and when I need to use it again it would be charged and ready to be used a bit more.

I can do it right now, but it hurts me when I see those blinking lights and this struggle.

Re: Yoga 730 13 - Powerbank charger USB PD (Power Delivery) 12V 1,5A - 18W.

Never mind the actual power consumption.  Best I can determine, your laptop requires 20V.  The power bank you linked only provides 12V max, if I'm reading it correctly.

It's surprising that anything happens at all, since they should negotiate and fail to find matching voltage configurations.

You need a power bank that can provide 20V (at whatever power level you think is necessary) and correctly negotiate that with your laptop. What you are doing now may well damage one or both pieces of equipment.

(And keep the conversation civil please.)

Re: Yoga 730 13 - Powerbank charger USB PD (Power Delivery) 12V 1,5A - 18W.

Yep, just got the PB-XD26 20V 2.3A output - works like a charm.

It really looks like the lower power power bank was negotiating, starting to charrge (becase laptop battery charge was increasing over time) and than it got disconnected.

I also tried connecting my laptop to QC 3.0, this behaved as it should - starting negotiation and disconnecting - no charging.

Fix it before someone like me with low V power bank will fry its laptop, or check if it is safe Smiley Wink
