Yoga 730 15 dock compatibility

2018-06-13, 13:19 PM

Hi.

I have Yoga 730 15, and bought Plugable TB3 docking station

Everything is ok but it does not charge my laptop. so I decided to return it.

Now I need new one.

Does anyone know what TB3 dock or USB-C dock is compatilibity to Yoga 730 15?

I just need 1 external display, 4k@60hz and charging over TB3 port.

Thanks.

What did you get for this, and are you using dual displays, not including your laptop monitor? I am looking for dual external displays that are HDMI. They only need to work on 1920 x 1080 for the current monitors I am using.

Hey buddy,

Did you ever find a dock that would support charging for the Lenovo yoga 730 15"?

I am having the same exact problem as you.

Thank you!

I have tried the lenovo dock usb-c on a 920 yoga and charging didn't work. I suspect it will not work for the 730 as well.

Failed to mention that!

Re: Yoga 730 15 dock compatibility

I ended up using the Targus DSU100 docking station.  The only issue I have is getting the USB c cable to work it keeps cutting out the connection, but if I use the USB 3 connection everything is working fine, it just takes away one of my two USB 3 port.  I was thinking this might be a cable issue or that I need to update my USB C drivers on my laptop?

Could be your drivers. Have you ran Lenovo update 5? That's where I would start. Doesn't look like there is firmware or drivers for that specific dock so your only option would be the laptop I would think.

I ended up ordering this from Targus yesterday. It supplies power up to 90w and connects Via USB-A. I have ordered everything from the MIIX 720,Yoga 920,V330,L570 and L580.  All models that are equipped with USB-C and are true thunderbolt ports have had issues with docks supplying power direct from that port. I have tried Lenovo's thunderbolt dock (red bottom), dell and various universal versions but the only one I could get to work correctly was the a dell dock with the lenovo 920.

It seems support in this area from Lenovo is lacking. Most of my users need some type of dock for external displays while suppying power (less cables to unplug) and I just can't find a universal fit, so hopefully this from Targus will work.

Okay this docking station was working fine now I am getting my wireless connection to drop when using this.  Not sure what is happening, I may need to purchase a different docking station.

Also, I cannot use this with the USB-C cable only works with the USB-3 connection on my Yoga 730-15.

Wireless connection shouldn't have anything to do with the dock unless you have RJ-45 going to the dock, then wireless may be overidden by your LAN connection.

Witch specification has the USB-C Port on Yoga 730-15 for USB Power Delivery (PD)

I have a docking station with Profil 4 (USB Power Delivery Specification Revision 2.0 Verson 1.0) and it dosent work to charge my Yoga 730-15

Profile | +5 V              | +12 V            | +20 V

-------------------------------------------------
0          | Reserved      | Reserved      | Reserved
1          | 2.0 A, 10 W   | N/A                | N/A
2         | 2.0 A, 10 W    1.5 A, 18 W   | N/A
3         | 2.0 A, 10 W    3.0 A, 36 W  | N/A
4         | 2.0 A, 10 W    | 3.0 A, 36 W  |3.0 A, 60 W
5         | 2.0 A, 10 W[   5.0 A, 60 W  5.0 A, 100 W

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_(Physical)#PD

Or have the yoga 730 other USB-C Specifications like

- USB Power Delivery Specification Revision 2.0, Version 1.2

- USB Power Delivery Specification Revision 3.0

A real catastrophe these usb specifications and all the chaos with the compatibility

And the lack of documentation on the part of manufacturers makes the disaster even greater

Re: Yoga 730 15 dock compatibility

I understand your frustration. I do have a few Yoga 920's hooked up to dell d6000 usb-c docks and the TB3 is functioning as should. Both power and data function correctly, which brought me back to the datasheets for both units 730 15 and 920 14. The 920 yoga states this in the port section "USB 3.1 x 2 (Type C, support Thunderbolt, DC-in function)" and the 730 states the following "USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 1 (with the functions of Thunderbolt 3)".

My point is it appears the 730 does not have the "DC -in function", which leads me to believe it's data only.

I really wish these manufacturers would be a little more clear about functionality in regards to their products. We shouldn't need to go on a witch hunt for information that pertains to ports functionality.  The normal user would is not going to understand this these subtle differences. They could be a little more transparent is all I am saying.
