Yoga 730-15IWL FPS drops

2019-07-13, 16:25 PM

Hey Guys,

I just bought the new laptop from Lenovo but I am experiencing FPS drops when playing games ( tried Guild War's 2 League of Legends, Paladins) and all got the same issues: first everything runs smoothly gut after 5min the FPS drops to 30 or lower. I have an Nvidia GTX 1050 and an Intel i7-8565U. I read that it has maybe something to do with the BIOS, which lowers the power of the GPU and Chips when they get hot, but I dont know it as a mather of fact. Please help me.

Greetings from Germany

Dennis:)

PS: everything is updated.

Hi,

Same problem here. I investigate this isue online for a month now - conclusion is that performance issues comes from CPU thermal throtling. There are few possible solutions: 1) try to re-paste it; 2) undervolt your CPU; 3) disable Lenovo inteligent cooling.

1) for a re-paste I will try a ceramic paste and liquide metal. Just to check what kind of temp. drop I can expect from both solutions.

2) For undervolt I will use Intel XTU, there are many online tutorials for this.

3) In forums I found that disabling Lenovo Inteligent Cooling does help with CPU throtling, you can disable it in Lenovo Vantage app.

I will post progress here.

So, i re-pasted with ceramic paste, it helped big one, as you can see in the image, re-pasting is something very advisable for this laptops. Also with undervolting your cpu it is possible to do some gaming, league of legends now runs 60-70 fps.
