i5 has the same issue. I had the 14 inch Ideapad 720s and while there was some normal throttling between with the i5 8th gen U and MX150, it was nowhere near as bad and you could even get some better perfromance using throttlestop.

Thanks for confirming. Shame they really screwed up this machine. I guess only the Surface Pro 2 figured out how to do this correctly with nvidia and 8th gen in slim laptop?? Or is that really screwed up to since it doesnt have fans.
Is gen 8 doomed in slim laptops?

I don't get it.
Why woudl you put a GTX 1050 in a laptop, that will use it in 20% after 1 minute of gaming?
This is what's happening to me. CPU goes down to 0.6GHz and GPU to about 20%. IT would be better to have a less powerfull CPU that will not overheat as much and will keep the GPU at 100%.
I will try to return this laptop since it does not deliver what was expected.

Would this be the driver that could be updated to solve this issue?
Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit)

It might not be a driver that needs to be updated. Most third party power managment applications change settings in the bios for certain apps like games and video. Whatever is causing our CPU's to power limit throttle is likely something that could be fixed with a BIOS update. At least that's what my limited research appears to be saying.

I was being able to fix the issue by going to Settings -> System -> Power and sleep mode -> Additional power parameters (this can be a bit different for you because I translated it from my native language) and adding new power scheme based on Performance template.
Now everything is butter smooth but laptop heats more during heavy load.
Hope this helps.

Hi Ol8vil ! I'm having the same issue, did you just changed the power plan ? You did nothing else ?
Not even used throttlestop or Intel xtu ?
And with that configuration you managed for example to play a game ?
Thanks you in advance

Have anyone tried using another power supply? Since the one that comes with the 730 is just 90watts and maybe that's the problem.
I now someone who tried a 90watt supply with the Asus zenbook flip 14 which comes with a supply of 65watt, and had a very similar problem, and the 90 watt solved the problem.
Maybe the 145watt power supply of the 720 ?

ol8vil - Do you have a Yoga 730 15" ? Changing the power plan did not work for me. Please confirm you have the exact model we do. The yoga 720 does not have this issue when used in performance mode.
On the other hand, if you do indeed have the Yoga 730 and yours works, that's great for the people who buy this in the future.
