I do not understand that - there's a serious problem here - why do not Lenovo take the problem seriously? And they're taking care of it already?
Is there a chance that there will not be a solution and we all got stuck with a bad computer?

I have now received a BIOS update from the Vantage lenovo version 1.9
Did anyone else update the bios to this version, and did that fix the problem to someone?

No, not at all.

Still no fix in sight.

EDIT: YOGA 730-15IWL here. Installed the 9MCN19WWV2.00 BIOS-Update. Intelligent Cooling Off, yadda yadda... Issue occurs with Destiny 2 and other games.

Re: Yoga 730 CPU clock speed stuck at around 0.800 GHz when gaming, help!

Just purchased my 730 laptop a couple weeks ago, mainly for school as my thinkpad was getting old, but was also looking forward to running a couple games on it, mainly Rainbow Six Siege and Rocket League. Not the most demanding games at all. when I first started playing, I was running 110+ fps for the first 30 seconds of a match, and then after that it would spike down to around 40 fps. Have messed around with every troubleshooting solution you could think of (short of messing around with the BIOS), and am still having the problem. Looking to get a field technician in to take a look and see what he can do, but really wish i saw this forum before choosing to purchase this product. Frustating thing is that my brother has the 720, with virtually the exact same specs besides that my GTX 1050 graphics card is 4GB, and his is 2GB. My brother can run the same games consistently at 100+ frames, and mine runs so poorly. If the field technician is finding anything I will look at returning it and purchasing a different laptop that can handle a bit of gaming. Quite a shame as this is a beautiful machine in every other aspect...

Would anyone know of any comparable laptops I can keep my eye open for that is a 2 in 1 with specifications that can handle some gaming??? Also, not looking to spend much over 2,000$.

Any advice is appreciated!

You should buy any gaming laptop if you want to avoid this.

Anyway the application that is named ThrottleStop helped me with same problem which you have. I just have to check "Disable and Lock Turbo Limit" in FIVR settings, now is laptop running in hight performance and FPS does not drop.

Please check attached picture.

@jadenb if the field technician gives you a solution or any information please tell us.

You can try the workarounds mentioned here in the forum, but be carefull you might lose your warranty. Personally i still didn't try ir because of the warranty.

As for your question about other laptop, you can go for the HP X360 or DELL XPS15 , both with the vega M GL graphics processor, keep in mind that they don't have regular USB ports, only USB-C, take a look at reviews on the internet, they say that the performance is similar to a GTX1050 max-q.

Instead you can go for the 720 since it don't have the throttling issues. But be careful because i have read about a lot of issues with the 4K panel.

When i was looking to buy this laptop i looked for others like asus zenbook filp 15 or acer spin 5, both with GTX 1050 and I7-8550U, but since they have the smae specs, they may probably have similar CPU throttling issues.

SOLUTION:

For me this worked, i already have tried everything said in this forum but nothing has had worked. What the solution for me was: go to lenovo vantage (type lenovo in windows search bar), select “menu” and than “search for updates.” Now wait for the bios update to be found and install it.

Playing Ring of elysium first had huge frame drops and an average of 10-15 fps on low graphics, now on medium graphics it has 25-30fps. This is a huge difference and thank god, it eas useless before.

@SvenBosma Glad it worked for you!

Two or three days ago i updted mine and the issue is still there.

What BIOS version do you have installed? (says it in lenovo vantage)

Also, do you know at what clock speed is your CPU running?

Hello,

I recently used throttlestop to disable my turbo boost, and it has completely fixed the problem. I then undervolted the CPU and GPU to help with temperature problems (as it would run around 85-87 degrees during gameplay), I still had problems with the high temperatures after, so purchased a cooling pad. This virtually did nothing and my CPU temperatures are still around 82 degrees. I am worried this is a bit hot as I am planning on having this laptop for atleast 3ish years. I was wondering if you knew of any way to cool it down further. Also, any idea if undervolting my laptop/ disabling power boost using throttlestop will void my warranty?
