Yoga 730 i7 constantly losing wifi connection

2018-08-27, 18:55 PM

We just bought this laptop yesterday for my daughter's birthday, and it's having a super hard time staying connected to our wifi. I am not very computer savvy so I need help in small words figuring out how to fix this. Any ideas?

Hi Morgnsgrl,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Check if it would have the same issue connecting to a different Wifi. Uncheck power saving option property of the wireless card from the device manager.

Press Windows key + X and choose Device Manager.

Click on the arrow before Network Adapters.

Click the WLAN card and then right click to choose properties.

Click Power Management Tab and uncheck the box for "Allow computer to turn off device to save power similar to this article.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Also lower the Roaming Aggressiveness. Especially if you have a lot of neighbors who also have WiFi.

Thank you for your answers.

Roaming aggressiveness was already set to 1.

Wireless adapter power saving mode set as shown on the screenshot.

Updated bios and all the drivers which seems related.

The problem persists. Maybe a bit less than before, but that doesn't solve the issue. It losses wifi when coming back from suspension, or when the signal losses just one line. Or whenever the laptop feels like to do it.

The issue here is that users shouldn't go and have to change those configurations. Users shouldn't be doint that, but working, or having fun. We pay for a laptop to save us problems, not generate more of them.

Also, sometimes the fan keeps working in a "waving" mode...

Very dissapointed with Lenovo.

How can I ask for a refund? I have written to Lenovo but not getting any answer.

Thanks in advance!

1) Have you updated all of the drivers and the BIOS? Use Lenovo Vantage to do that if you haven't. It's the first thing you should do with any new computer as a lot has changed between the time it was assembled and when you received it.

2) Confirm that it's not your router.  See if the same thing happens when using a public WiFi hotspot. We see a lot of users who have issues at home, but not at work or at a coffee shop.

Re: Yoga 730 i7 constantly losing wifi connection

So we weren't able to update the drivers or the BIOS because we weren't able to maintain an internet connection long enough to accomplish anything! We were fairly certain it wasn't our router, as all other devices in the house including the old PC laptop this one was replacing had no problems. In the end we scheduled an appt at Best Buy (where we bought the lenovo) for them to take a look at it. THEY weren't able to get it to connect to their wifi either, and made an even swap for an identical brand new laptop. When we brought the new one home, it connected to the wifi immediately without any issues and it's been perfect since. So it seems like ours had a manufacturing defect of some kind that slipped through the inspection process.

Hi Doctordon,

Yes, BIOS and drivers are updated but the problem persists.

Router is ok. The rest of devices work fine. It is a problem in the product.

Users shouldnt' need to know how to open power management or even worse, the Commmand panel with administrator rights... It is good if they know it, but they shouldn't be making technical investigations and research with a problem which shouldn't be there.

Finally, I phoned technical service and they will take the laptop to check it out. A shame for Lenovo, I won't buy anything more of this brand.  My confidence is over. I had bought a new product and then I won't have a new product, but a repaired product for the same price. It feels as I have bought a reconditioned product for the price of a new one.

I would add more even if it is not the focus of this forum:

This forums only serve the purpose of being the technical service instead of Lenovo's one. We, users, give sevice among users. We gather, talk about the problem and try to fix it. We make the job Lenovo should make. For free. We save Lenovo's time and what we get? Discounts or anything? We get ranks like "guru" or "paper tape": as if this was a videogame, but I don't see fun in losing time for making researches. Help each other is great, but not this way... And this happens not only for Lenovo forums, but any company forum. All this energy should be focused in complaining to Lenovo for making failed products and not being focused in making their support job.

If Lenovo wouldjust drop the Realtek wifi and switch to an Intel wifi, we wouldn't be having this issue.  They should at least have the courtesy to offer a list of compatible wifi cards.  I would gladly spend the $35 for a different brand if I knew it was compatible.

I will neve purchase or recommend Lenovo.

My brand new Lenovo Yoga 730-13 i7 is currently in route to have the wifi replaced.  I hope this works.
